Edited by: Bufo8o2 on 10/07/2008 18:46:30 Got lucky and finally have enough isk to get and fit out my new ship (a harpy assault ship that I have just trained for). I am will to spend up to 30 million including cost of ship so max 15-20 million on modules. It will be used for mission running (in caldari space)for the moment and I will be able to fit tech II railguns. I don't quite have 3 million skill points yet so nothing too skill intensive, though I will spend some time training certain things up if they prove necessary. I have thought up some myself but would like to here of other people's setups and ideas. Thanks for any help Also please don't say assault ships are useless, I have chosen to use one and in the future I can then go to heavy assaults

With a Harpy you have exactly two options available: Snipe with Rails Maul With Blasters
For PVE your only viable option is sniping with rails because, though the range bonuses mean blasters won't be a terrible as they seem at first glance, so long as you use longer range ammo.
The big issue you'll find with rails is your DPS is going to be fairly attrocious, but if you're running level 1 or 2's with it it should be sufficient. With blasters you're going to lose time constantly moving into range of various targets.
Active tanking is probably the way to go and investing in a good small deadspace booster should be considered. Some of these are exceedingly expensive but you can find some good ones for less than 10 million isk. Once you fill in the necessary holes in your shield tank you'll have sufficient tank for any mission an AF could reasonably complete (though you'll do best against guristas for the obvious reasons)

Is it kinetic and thermal that need to be boosted for caldari missions?

ok first of i just say what about to fit where modifie my setup of skill base and what you like.
high 4 rails FN AM and Iron (long and short range 1 small luancher CN Bloodclaw
mids AB Shield booster (i like a cheap faction one like a C type) shield boost amp whatever you like guess a cap mod would be nice.
lows 2 x mag stab
rigs some resist rigs bassed on mission type. (cheap ass rigs)

Guristas are some of the most common rats you fight in Caldari missions and they deal kinetic/thermal damage primarily - luckily these resists are natively very high on the Harpy.
Tanking will never be the problem you must overcome in a PVE AF as they generally tank better than a well tanked T1 cruiser. You're real issue is going to boil down to effective delivery of DPS.

pretty much exactly what he said
[Harpy, rarpy] Magnetic Field Stabilizer II Magnetic Field Stabilizer II
Pithi C-Type Small Shield Booster Kinetic Deflection Amplifier II Cap Recharger II Cold-Gas I Arcjet Thrusters
125mm Railgun II, Antimatter Charge S 125mm Railgun II, Antimatter Charge S 125mm Railgun II, Antimatter Charge S 125mm Railgun II, Antimatter Charge S Standard Missile Launcher II, Sabretooth Light Missile
[empty rig slot] [empty rig slot]
I haven't really ever thought about what to put in the rig slots. hmm although the increase from shield rigs is only 6ish m2 at rigging level 1, so probably worth it.

Change 125IIs for 150IIs and standard launcher for rocket launcher tech II, it makes fitting tight (dont remember whats needed perhaps drop ab for web not sure) but it is worth it for the DPS spike in lvl 1 and 2s. Harpy can also do lvl 3s of course but that requires either cap rigs or ancillary to allow med shield extender IMO. Arguably my opinions represent to an extent the opinions of my alliance and in particular circumstances give rise to a valid "casus belli" claim. |

Trying to find ways of fitting everything without running out of cpu, so how much are gallente navy/shadow serpentis magstabs and gistum c type resistance amplifiers? If they aren't too much then I could fit things much more easily.

Would this set-up be alright? High 150mm railgun II 150mm railgun II 150mm railgun II 150mm railgun II Empty Mid Gistii B-type small shield booster 1MN afterburner I Monopropellent I hydrazine boosters Gistum C-type kinetic deflection amplifier Gistum C-type heat dissapation amplifier Low Magnetic stabiliser II Magnetic stabiliser II No rigs yet This just about fits if I train electronics V and should be able to afford it as long as gistum C-types don't cost too much

only way for me to fit a Harpy...though it might xceed your 30mill a vey bit
High: 4x 125mm tech2 rails (AM and Spikes) Abalest rokit launcher
Med: Gistii a-type AB Gistii a-type SB Invul field tech2 Dread Guristas magnetic scattering amplifier
Low: 2x Shadow serpentis magstab
Rigs: CCC1 Core defence field purger1
....ok...actually its a stupid way to fit a Harpy...but its fun and does great in lvl3 missions and also ok at tanking lvl4 waves

Edited by: Ash Bringer on 11/07/2008 16:31:55 H: 4 75mm Gatling t2 1 Arby Rocket Launcher
M: 2 Med Shield Extender t2 2 Shield Recharger t2
L: 2 Shield Power Relay t2
Rigs: 2 Em rigs(if u go against guristas or serp just go field purgers)
Awesome tank. Actually better than a lone gistii-a type even better one with amplified. Awesome tracking and 34km range with spike Funny Dps ( but hey you wont accomplish in 1 setup ) U'll laugh even PC BCs, if they are solo, as they can't break your tank.
Actually this tank is so much better , %100 passive and have greater buffer for problems than above poster... And cost like max: 15mil maybe in fitting with EM rigs 19mil, if with field purgers cost better but tanks like god if not against EM

Interesting set-ups but I can't afford the first one and for level 2 missions I shouldn't need quite such a strong tank and so to do them quickly higher dps and an afterburner is more useful. For other things though those setups might be better.

If in the future I wanted to do level 3 missions would that be possible in my set up shown with hardners/amps changed depending who I was fighting and some rigs? If not what other changes (such as better ammo/modules) would be needed?
