Hood caught a lucky hit from Bismarks escort, the Prinz Eugen, in the forward armoury which promptly exploded and tore the ship in half. As you can tell by a look through the archives, that kind of thing didnt happen often
Quote: The Bizmark which was 'one' of the largest battleships ever built, was taken down by a SINGLE STUPID BYPLANE (basically a condor by eve standards). the biplane got a hit on the rudder, incapacitating the bismark in the middle of the sea, dooming it to destruction.
Bismark also took damage from the HMS Prince of Wales which was amplified by the torpedo hit from the Swordfish biplane.
Quote: in real life WW2, several battleships were scuttled (self-destruct) just out of fear that the enemy might be nearby (gate-camping) so the enemy would not capture it (get any loot).
That was the Admiral Graf Spee, and exactly why Langsdorff was ordered to scuttle her outside montevideo i dont know - and she was a Battlecruiser, not a Battleship.
Quote: a soldier hiding in the sand can instakill a heavy tank-- one shot to the rear with an rpg. a motorboat with a single antiship missile could instakill a large ship. a tiny airplane could kill a whole battleship in one shot.
A heavy tank is hardly in the league of a battleship, and a motorboat with enough explosives packed into it can blow up damn near anything - however, a battleship is just too big, unless that motorboat is carrying a team of commandoes or a nuke.
Quote: hell, even a pickuptruck hiding in the woods with a single silkworm launcher could kill a battleship 95km away in the ocean with one shot.
Doubtful, the silkworm isnt a particularly big or effective missile.

Quote: agreed that realworld examples should not be used to compare to how eve-gameplay tuning goes-
Agreed
Quote: in rl even robot drones smaller than airplanes can launch cruise missiles.
Actually, at the moment they cant launch them, they only provide terminal guidance.
Quote: probably the most powerful/deadly ship EVER created in the world (IMHO)- is the current US Arleigh Burke class destroyer. destroyers are SMALLER than cruisers, they are inbetween frigates and cruisers. the ArleighBurke's are insane missile spammers, steel armored, with phased radar like the aegis cruisers-- probably the closest thing to a (raven) on the high seas today.
I disagree, while the Arleigh Burkes are amongst the best at what they were built for, a Ticonderoga beats them in missile volume easily, and the Los Angeles block II subs and the newer Sea Wolf SSN's are particularly deadly vessels - armed with Tomahawks and the latest and greatest mk48 torpedoes, much greater firepower than the mk50 torps carried by surface combatants.
Quote: i vote Arleigh Burke current best for rl 1 on 1 pvp;) Aegis got the better ew but they arne't as well armor tanked.
Neither of them are armoured in any serious way, and the Ticonderoga-class (Arleigh Burke cans are AEGIS ships too) have more missiles to throw.
