Yesterday we were engaging in some delightful Faction Warfare when a lag-bomb dropped on us. Once 60 on 60 fight begun the whole game froze for all people in the fleet with 1 minute interval refreshes. Though this is nothing new, I don't think this is how the game is meant to be played. Please fix this crap already, that fight could've been the funnest thing in days yet turned out to be lamest thing next to mining. Whatever CCP has been doing over the last year hasn't fixed lag in any manner so I'd suggest to start afresh with some delightful brainstorming. I'm not a server architect but I'd probably look towards some system where processing capacity is logically transferred to the areas where most people reside. There have to be some benchmarks on pvp fleet action you can pull to get you started and then assing the necessary resources to that. Anyways, whatever you do, please fix laaaaaaaaaag, it ruins your otherwise awesome game. Ohh and no you can't have my stuff :)
PS While at it also fix the forum login problem

They're working on lag in three primary ways:
1. The IBM Supercomputer - CCP is developing a large supercomputer in a partnership with IBM to complement or replace the network of Blade servers they currently use 2. Infiniband - Infiniband will hopefully allow data to be dynamically balanced across different nodes. Currently one system can only be handled by one node, which goes to hell very quickly when lots of people start shooting at each other. 3. The "Need for Speed" Initiative - Ongoing code optimizations and rewrites to make client/server processing more efficient
Unfortunately, nothing we can do about it at the moment except suck it up. ---------------- Play EVE: Downtime Madness v0.83 (Updated 7/3) |

Dear numbnuts, My ISP and PC rock. Read the thread before replying. I just felt like reminding CCP to prioritize their efforts on this problem. We've been living with it for years so maybe its time to do something about it.
The person who replied with Infiniband idea is obviously smarter than you and I appreciate the info. When will we see it?

Wow, so many ******ed people, so little time..... The OP is complaining about server and grfx lag, not latency. These are things that CCP should have addressed long ago, and have been a fixture of the game since it was introduced. I've played 64 player games that were nothing but a constant blob fight, with high level grfx, max resolution, with no lag at all. Yet a 60 man fleet engagement is an invitation to a slide show. This is a coding problem, nothing more.
And as you flame away, please don't make excuses of how Eve is different...they've had four years to address the problem, and yet it seems as bad now as it ever was.

Eve has alot of data to process. Switching to a bracketless overview really helps alot if you have not done did yet. I have been in much larger battles then 60vs60 and my pc does slow down and i did have to turn of AA but with over 500+ ships on my screen i was able to pull 30fps. And thats with the massive drone amount excluded since those will be drawn aswell by your pc. A good pc from nowadays can run trinity pretty well however running it on a lower end system will cause problems.
Anyway back to the lag issue, agreed that some battles could have really tunrned out a lot much more fun to play without lag. But if you start thinking about what a server must do to make a large fleet battle in eve possible then its pretty understandeble its quite hard to pull it off. I dont think ccp can *just* fix it like that, they would have done it along time ago if they could.

I'm so terribly sorry CCP haven't yet managed to develop super-luminal (faster than light) communication yet, or invested their money in dedicated cable connections direct from the server to each and every one of their customers. I am also terribly sorry that CCP have chosen to keep their 100 Terahertz Quantum CPU technology a secret and not use it in their game servers, and that they sent those zombies round to your house to eat your brains... wait.. no... that might have been me actually. Damn... I told them to go and find CCP Mitnal, but they must have mistaken you for him. Oh well, I'll be sure to send you some compensation in the form of high-value ammunition in game However, now you are just reading my signature... Or are you...

Only lag is worse than 1 year ago now and the speed of typical servers has about doubled since then. Marketing lures more players even though the hardware isn't being upgraded(*) and the software is getting worse.

Speed of server processors haven't increased much, server speed has been increasing by adding additional cores. This doesn't help CCP any because only processor can handle a node at once. ---------------- Play EVE: Downtime Madness v0.83 (Updated 7/3) |

Whole thread is full of people that FAIL.
Lag? Yeah it exists. People are lauding CCP for taking out full page ads or whatever the hell people are seeing.. and throwing gobs of cash at advertising.
That means they are not throwing cash at fixing the 60 vs 60 fleet engagement that lags to hell and back again.
All the cash they get from the isk farmers they let stay in the game should at least be put to some good use.
