The Alliance wars:
Have produced more bitterness and disrespect than any conflict in the history of eve. I fear that smack talk, lies, and bitterness will ultimately cloud the reason we play the game.
The solution to the problem:
There may be no ôsolutionö but the situation can be drastically improved. In my time in eve I have found that the most respect and the most admiration comes during and after a duel. When two combatants meet in a trial of skill they put their pride and honor on the line. More often than not the smack talk stops.
Introducing MDS:
MDS or Master Duelist Society seeks to create an environment of mutual respect through combat. MDS IS NOT A CORP itÆs a society of the best pvpers and duelists in all of eve. Members will be admitted based on ability in combat AND REGARDLESS OF ALLIANCE OR CORP. hopefully when members of MDS meet in combat on opposing sides in the wars they will take with them the respect they gained and will foster that respect amongst their fellow corpmates.
How to join MDS and how to earn the title of Master Duelist:
Becoming a member of MDS will be EXTREEMLY difficult. Once a month members of MDS will hold a trail of possession. To posses the title of master duelist and to gain admittance to MDS you must face and defeat 2 MDS members, of your choice, in back to back duels.
The title of Master Duelist, its perks and responsibilities:
If you are victorious in your trial of possession you will gain the title of Master Duelist. The victors of the trail of possession will have their names and the corp their a member of posted on the forums. In addition they will have their name placed in a secure container the location of which only MDS members will know. This container will act as a time capsule which will be opened when the eve universe is coming to an end and the names posted in the forums. Also as member of MDS you will have tremendous bragging rites as a pvper and your corp. will have bragging rites of you as a member. As a member of MDS you will be expected to treat all other members with the utmost respect as they are your equals in combat. On the battlefield with your corp. you must treat all other members of MDS you encounter with tremendous respect, anything less will result in your dismissal.
The trial of Possession, its rules and regulations:
As previously stated the trial of possession will occur once a month at an undisclosed location in 0.0 space.
All challengers are expected to provide their own wepons/ mods/ ships/ ect.
The challenger must select 2 MDS members of their choice and duel them back to back without a break in fighting.
All duels will start at 30 km then progress from their.
Warping out, yelling stop, or running out of ammo will be considered losses
The destruction of your ship will be a loss
NO pod killing
Any ship class or type may be used in a duel
Any setup may be used
NO NAMED MODS WILL BE ALLOWED. All ships will be scanned prior to battle to ensure that no ship is using any named modifications. A trail of possession is about player skill not the size of that players wallet
Losers of the trail of possession will face Each other in combat to decide who will be allow to challenge again the next month. If you loose this duel you must wait at least 3 month to try again.
Corporations who have MDS members will be expected to add or change the title of that member to include Master Duelist. All Master Duelists will be expected to include their membership in their bio.
SO:
If you think you have l33t skills, If you think your one bad mother, If you think you could kick my ass then post with your main character the number of pvp related skill points you have (roughly is ok) and the number of duel victories you have had and I will get in touch with you.
AGAIN MDS IS TO CREATE RESPECT AND MEMBERS WILL BE ADDMITTED REGARLESS OF CORP OR ALLIANCE.

Shouldn't the duellist be given a chance to recharge cap or reload ammo after the first fight? Seems a little difficult that they have to face another player with full cap, full ammo, has seen them fighting already and who has had a chance to scan their mods as well.
Also, who are the original members? Obviously, at least two players need to start it in order for the next person to beat two players. What qualifies these original players to be Master Duelists?
I guess that I just can't imagine too many players who would be willing to sacrifice their 100 million dollar battleship to fight a battle that they probably couldn't win.

bship duels only? or what?
also after the missle changes, frig duels may be possible without any special rules
what about EW? anything on that?
what sort of penalty does someone who warps out face? because most people i imagine wouldnt bring a warp disruptor if its a 1v1 duel so warping out and taking the loss isnt really a loss as dying is
and wont people setup around the 30km range value? _____________________________________ Perpetually driven, your end is our beginning. "Can I be a consultant for EVE II?" - WhiteDwarf |

I think we need a verb here. Mimiru > It'd be a tie, the monkies nerfed pooflinger wouldnt have enough tracking to hit the parrot orbiting him, but the parrot's beak is so small it couldnt break the monkey's fur tanking. |

I have played in many games where a dueling function has been included, and have been a member of a dueling clan at one point. I do believe dueling is an are which commands respect and honor. It is not about the weapons of the combat but the fighters behind them. I would truly like to watch some of these duels. Great idea.

All the answers are in the post!
All ships, all setups, warping out = you lose. Edit: Of course, warping out is better than staying and dying if you don't want to lose a ship.

Edited by: TWD on 22/05/2004 12:14:08 Nice idea, but dont like the rules of starting at 30km and the ship scanning, also alot of fights will be stalemate.
something like both players starting at a different random moon, playing around, maybe giving eachother "hints" on local. no rules, includes warping out. with a max of 15/30 mins
- then when you kill the other battleship/he jumps out/he logs off, you get 5 points. and the other guy is out. - if he gives up, he is out and you get 2 points... BUT you are still allowed to kill his ship if he is locked down after he has given up and receive 5 points instead of 2. - if neither gets destroyed or both agree to a stalemate, both get 0 points.
this will force people to use realistic and different types of setups.
then the next round the remaining people can challenge eachother again, or randomized.
etc repeat until max amount of rounds.
at the end, the person with the most points and is still in.. wins |

Nice idea, though won't stop smacktalk or anything. Too many people don't respect their opponents.
However, I'd like to see a ranking system or something within it... read some book sometime where there was a warrior society that had titles 1 to 600 or something. To increase your own title you could challenge up to 10 places above your own, and swapped titles if you won.
Just me two cents.

If done properly this could be interesting, but you should have 3 categories: frigate, cruiser and BS. And I guess if somebody wanted you could let smaller ships into bigger ship categories, but you can't let bigger ships into smaller categories.

amazing idea! i'd love to participate.
also while we are at it, why not have the best pvpers out there create a neutral pvp academy-like society and teach less expirienced players?
like, make one .0 system absolutely neutral and make a pvp school there, i know there's the chaos server for that but it has a limit, and it's used more for testing.
anyway, awesome idea! ------------------- :: finite horizon :: killboard ::

Yes, seperating ship classes would be a good idea, also what about drone usage and tech II mods? i.e... a tech II cap recharger is really similiar to a named eutectic I cap charger...
but i like this concept a lot.

I like this idea, it's a bit like corps having their own champions. Having a ranking system would be good as then you would be able to see just how much of a master these members are. How are you going to work out the founding members? Are you going to invite say 6 people to found the society? I think that people on the forum could nominate 5 people to be the first in the society, along with yourself as the founder. That would make 6, and then prospective Master Deulists can have a choice of who they would like to fight, or even each alliance could nominate their best pvp'er to join it. Then the alliance with the highest ranking MD can have bragging rights. 3 people who i have seen in fights and beleive should be given an opportunity to try out are, The Enslaver (in an interceptor), Phenom(in an interceptor), and Faramir (I've seen him fight in any number of ships).
