I don't suppose anyone's written one of those useful guides with client-tweaks to minimalize the effects of fleet lag? Things like changing cache size, tweaking graphics or INI files, whether to use classic or premium. All I really want to achieve is minimalizing the work my client (and the server on my behalf) has to do, so I can afford myself an advantage when everyone else is waiting for their screen to load. I have noticed during large battles that some people's client loads the battle quite quickly, and others do not. I'd like to be one of the people that does.
Any tips appreciated. -omg-

Sounds more like an ISP issue than tweaks that can be made on your side.

I've heard that swiching off in-game sounds can help here, might also find that reducing graphics quality or even running in "classic" mode may reduce loading times too?

The game is already loaded, as to speak, what really matters is your ISP's ability to communicate events back and forth between you and the EVE cluster.
Feel free to prove me wrong.

Exactly. Sometimes people mistake "low fps" with "lag." You can indeed improve your fps by lowering graphics settings/getting a better computer, and sometimes there are programs that can help with fps. But lag? There's really nothing you can do about lag other than getting another ISP.

Well when I say lag, I am really referring to any bottleneck that may exist on my system. It's obvious data transfer rate can only carry me so far, so I was just wondering if there were any tweaks I could attempt to 'lighten the load' data-wise so there would be less struggling for my gears.
For example, back when people had thousands of insta-BMs and hundreds of eve-mails, it was well known that deleting them all would decrease load-time when you jumped into a new system. Things like that. -omg-

Simple answer is it depends on why you are loading slower.
I have a laptop that is memory constrained and I start thrashing (CPU waits for disk paging) when I enter large fleet combat. If this is your problem then turning off sound as well as missile and turret effects will do you wonders. Lowering graphics quality can help here to along with any other settings that eliminate things that need loaded into memory (out of virtual memory). Turning off LOD (level of detail rendering) can in some cases slightly reduce the load on your main memory at the cost of GPU and graphics memory workload.
If the problem is instead that your graphics just hits a <1 frames per second level and you can't follow what is happening (like my desktop), you want to make sure LOD is on and all the graphics settings (including resolution) are at a minimum.
For both the above problems, flying with the camera completely zoomed out seems to help a lot, probably because you never actually render any 3d models at that zoom level.
If you are just on a slow connection and your local resources are doing fine, you need to reduce the information you request from the server. The only way I know of to do that is keep your overview as constrained as possible. This can make a several second difference on slower broadband connections.
There are all sorts of tools you can get to see what your problem is but the old school way that I use is to change a bunch of settings and see if it has the needed effect.
(Due to video card constraints on my personal systems I seldom use the trinity client therefore this advise comes from the classic client, but should extend nicely to the trinity client.)
