n00b question:
I picked up some T2 and Faction Crystals from battles. They obviously are used, but how can I tell to what extent? And are they resellable to a Crystal user for a drastically reduced price or for a trade? Or should they go in the recycle bin?
Thanks!

I'm taking a look at my used crystals and I don't really see how damaged they are. Not sure if you can tell without loading them.
They're not worthless however, they'll be very useful for crystal users. Chances are they're not very damaged at all, and will be worth near full price.

Problem is, once they're used, you can neither contract them ("One or more of the items specified in your contract are damaged. Please repair them before entering them into a contract.") nor sell them on the market. ("You cannot sell the Scorch M on the market without repackaging it. Please repackage it and try again.")
Imho the mechanics around faction/t2 crystals are borked, or at least inconvenient.
And I also think that there really isnt a way to see how damaged the crystals already are; I just tried, maybe the repairshop would show me how many HP the crystal has left, but alas, it just gave me the finger, if even.

I wouldn't mind if the repairshop let us repair damaged crystals... except they're being "used", not damaged. I don't know, amarr has it pretty easy right now

I wish we could use repair paste on them at least, or something.
I'm a bit anal-retentive about my crystals and I won't start a new set of 8 until every one of them from the previous set is destroyed.
Not that I mind the price, but it's just inconvenient :( __________________________________

Btw I didnt wanna imply I think repairing them should be possible or anything (altough thats not the worst idea) I just thought I could trick the repairshop into telling me the sekrit HP.

Oh I know, I tried to do the same thing. I think there should be some sort of option for damaged crystals.. but I don't know what. Straight repairing them seems too easy.

They have a % chance to gain damage. I think it counts by .01s, I'm not positive.

No, they have a straight percentage chance to take damage after each shot. For faction crystals this is 100% meaning they always take 1/4000th of the damage required to destroy them. For T2 crystals, there's a 10% chance they lose 1/100th of their HP.
In any case, this is irrelevant for the discussion at hand since crystals are used, and thus cannot be repackaged or sold on the market, once they are put in a laser turret. Whether or not they have actually taken any damage is not a factor in whether you can repackage them.

You might, and I say might be able to find a buyer on the buy sell forum and you can direct trade them. But other then that, its either use or reprocess...

you cant reprocess...needs a stack of x crystals. and damaged items aren't stackable.

They can be reprocessed, that's what I'm doing with my AN crystals when they're about to break. -------- Ideas for: Mining |

Well...thanks for the info all. Now onto business ^^ ....anyone want to trade a bit of Caldari Navy Heavy Havoc Missiles or Null S or Null M for these. Don't buy it, but if you have it hanging around and it's of no use to you, like these are of no use to me, let's deal:
2 Aurora L 2 Gleam L 3 Amarr Navy Multifreq M 1 Amarr Navy Standard M

On the one hand, the fact that T2 crystals, which are superior in quality to their T1 counterparts supposedly actually get damaged by firing seems somewhat odd to me. On the other hand, everyone else pays a recurring cost for faction/t2 ammo, so letting Amarr users get away with paying a few isk to repair their multimillion ISK crystal and restoring it to full HP would draw all sorts of crying.
That being said, if I'm not mistaken you can just right-click the crystal and view it's information, but I'm not sure if it works when the crystal is unloaded.

Pretty sure you can right click on them and it'll tell you how much damage they've taken. ________

No, this doesn't work. They have to be loaded.

I don't even want to save money on it - I'd be fine if repairing a half-damaged crystal cost half as much as buying a new one.
Unfortunately I don't know how you'd balance the cost, given that if it's based on baseprice it would be effectively paying a few thousand isk to get a new crystal, and basing it on market price is hard at best and easily exploitable at worst.
As I said, maybe letting us use the nanite repair paste is the best idea.
Then again, regarding crystal inconvenience, I'd much rather have "change all crystals" than this.
EDIT: Confirming that the only way to check crystal damage is to have them loaded, in guns, in space, and to hover the mouse cursor over the gun. __________________________________

Yea, and in spite of the fact that I can fly amarr in a half assed fashion the only crystal using item I can use that degrades is t2 strip miners. |
