Hi there,
I'm considdering buying a black ops to be able to use the jump portal function but I have no idea how such a thing works and if it is what I think it is. If possible could someone answer the following questions?
A jump portal, is it something like a cyno? does it allow my gangmembers to warp to me? Does is require a jump bridge on the other side? Can I use it in empire or is it restricted to 0.0? If it allows gangmembers to warp to me, does it matter what kind of ship there in eg: frig, cruiser, capital,...? Does it create a beacon in space like a cyno?
Thanks in advance to all who can answer the above questions. Best regards Punchcrosser

As far as I know, a jump portal is a bridge that you and your fleet members use to get to a covert cyno generator, its restricted to low/no sec and I dont think that theres a visible beacon.

Edited by: Lord WarATron on 13/07/2008 22:52:13 You can make a portal to any member of your gang within range of your jump lightyear distance by right clicking the gang member and selecting bridge. Google up "eve jump planner" if you do not know how lightyears translates into the map.
You can jump from anyware to any cyno or cyno bridge on a pos, and you can portal to any cyno regardless of location. Of course, currently your gamgmate cannot open cyno's in high sec or cynojammed systems.

please correct me if i'm wrong so a black ops can jump/portal to any gangmember within range but the portal doesn't allow gangmembers to jump to the black ops?

You have a generic cyno opened. You have a blackops, x distance away. Blackops creates a black hole (I know, that's bad.) Everything including black ops goes through the black hole and ends up at the generic cyno.
Edit: Someone tell me if this is wrong, I don't want to spread misinformation.

Only recons, covert ops, and black ops ships can use the jump portal from a black ops.
Jump portals act like a jump bridge kinda. You have you cyno person fire up their cyno(or covert cyno) withn in range of your ship. Then you right click them and select bridge, or something like that. A portal forms and said ships from above can then select the portal and use it like a stargate.

Edited by: Bodhisattvas on 14/07/2008 04:31:04 alt/corpy/what ever opens up a covert cyno in a recon/covert op/black op then black ops pilot right click creates bridge to the covert cyno pilot then recons/covert ops right click on black op ship to jump to the covert cyno pilot.
Cyno and black op pilots have to be in gang of course and with range of each other purely dependent on the skills of the black op pilot, tbh I forget erm assume those wanting to jump have to be in gang also.
Size/mass of ships using jump bridge dictates how much fuel is required for each ship to make the jump. Said fuel being held in the cargo bay of the black op.
5 light year max.
The reason I forget is its been a while since I used my sin due to the fact that most peeps can't be buggered to use it for illicit purposes for one reason or another. I feel it is a perfectly plausible method for stabbing peeps in the head in a most sneaky enjoyable way.
