Being a solo miner, and having been in EVE for a while off and on, I'm curious about the viability of a Iteron V. With 1 turret hardpoint and no drones, is it just used to carry loads? Or is it reasonable for it to mine? I sure I'm missing something, but if you equip a mining laser, how does one defend itself?
Are there ships in EVE really so narrow in their usefulness? What am I missing?

industrial ships dont defend themselves... even tho u can fit a gun in there its rather useless anyways.
get a friend to defend you while you mine.
also id suggest getting a mining ship instead of a industrial to mine. ---------------------------------- Fighting for Minmatar o7 Yes... this is my main. Extreme Troll Slayer...

0.9 and above use it for afk mining, but thats about it. Otherwise use a ORE ship or something with a mining bonus.

Edited by: Mahindra on 14/07/2008 12:01:06 If you want to mine in an Industrial ship because of the large cargobay stay in 1.0 or 0.9 security. The better way to mine solo is to save and skill for a Retriever or Hulk. My Hulk has 5 Hammerhead II drones that are sufficient for defense down to 0.5 security. You can even survive in 0.5 sec. with tech II small scoutdrones like Hobgoblin II. With expanded cargoholds and cargo-rigs my Hulk has 17.199 M¦ cargospace. This is quite a lot of cargospace to fill until you have unload. If you can, get a second account and let you second char fly a hauler for you when you are mining.

Industrial ships' primary use is to move very large loads around. You can use it to mine, but while the cargo bay is large it will take a very long time to fill as it has no bonuses to mining and just a single laser. But as I said, the main use of these ships is moving a lot of stuff around at once, and if they're doing that anywhere dangerous they will need to be escorted by other ships.
