Edited by: BULK DATA on 15/07/2008 01:31:04 OK... This is beginning to hack me off.
Just finished building my new system. Vista 64 OS, Eve Client crashes whenever it starts to load anything 3D (ie: loading the station interior). I get a BSOD with a "PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA" error message. I seem to be able to load the client just fine, then, when anything 3D loads, kaplooey!
I'm really quite unsure what's causing this. Rest of the system: - GeForce 9800 GTX 512 - Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5600+ - 4GB RAM - Asus M2N-SLI Delux mobo
All the googling I'm doing is coming up with nothing.
Any suggestions?

Edited by: BULK DATA on 15/07/2008 02:27:55 I was sure someone would have encountered this issue. Nobody?
Anyone know if Vista 64 is even supported? |

I run two clients under Vista 64-bit, works just fine.
About the BSOD error, can you please supply the hex strings with the numbers also, it may support googling better.

most likely its not your operating system its your graphics card. I notice that you have an nvidia card and the error had "nv4" in it. try downloading and installing drivers (or redoing it for the same version drivers). You may also be having a DirectX problem. Most likely the fact that your running a 64bit version of Vista should not affect running eve.

Yeah, some of the hits on Google indicate driver issues.

OK... I'll rework my drivers. I had installed (and reinstalled) the latest drivers, I'll "downgrade" to the ones on the CD that came with the card. Fingers Crossed.
Thanks to all for the input. I'll let you know if this fixes it. I'm glad to hear that some of you guys are getting Eve to run on Vista64 OK. :)

As it is a new PC, every driver is up to spec's, chipset and such?

Yup... AFAIK, they are all up to spec. I'm going through the process of making sure of that now. I just got back home from work, so we'll see soon.
If anyone else has other ideas on this, feel free to post here. Once I figure out what's wrong, I'll be sure to post it. Thanks again for the input guys.
Heh, just ran DXDIAG... got this on my display adapter:
Quote: The file nv4_disp is not digitally signed, which means that it has not been tested by Microsoft's Windows Hardware Quality Labs (WHQL). You may be able to get a WHQL logo'd driver from the hardware manufacturer.
interesting.
ALSO: Nvidia just released a newer driver pack: 175.19 vs an older 175.16. I'll try that first to see if it resolves anything. |

OK... confirmed. The Nvidia link pointed to an XP64 driver instead of a Vista64 driver. I've gotten logged in, now it seems I'll need to do some tweaking to get the video to display properly. The game is all stuttery and slow at this point.
Not sure why. More on that later.
Thanks to all who offered their help / input.

You did uninstall the XP-driver from Control Panel first and also a restart so you got the default VGA driver back instead of the XP one?

Good luck!

Edited by: BULK DATA on 27/07/2008 23:40:27 OK... update.
I finally ended up doing a complete reinstall of the OS after formatting the HDD. Drivercleaner is not freebie and at this stage of the game, doing a reformat is. Also, the driver cleaner website doesn't explicitly say it works in Vista64.
This time, I let Vista choose the drivers. Still all stuttery and choppy. Also, there's about a 1/2 second delay between when I do something on my mouse (move an in game window or zoom in/out) before the action happens in game. Weird.
I'm thinking about giving Nvidia's latest drivers a shot. Dunno if that will do any good, but we'll see.
I'm wondering if there's a hardware issue at play here. I've had my vid card for all of 20 days. Maybe it's a bad card. It's tough to decide though, since you hear so much about Vista (especially 64) being a pile of crap.
Any other suggestions? The only "tweak your Eve client" tutorials I can find out there are for XP. If that might fix stuff, I suppose I could give that a try.
Suggestions?

First of all, Vista (both 32-bit and 64-bit) ain't near being a pile of crap. Usually, complainers about the operating system usually have some other quirk or similar with the computer, and blames Vista instead of the real culprit.
When you did a fresh install, did you also use the latest chipset and audio-drivers? Vista updated completely to SP1 and after?
