Hello all, Securitas here. I'm returning to Eve in a few days, and I was looking for a sub-battleship class sniper ship. It doesn't need to do much except: Hit targets at 110km+ range Have a large buffer I know plenty of Amarr setups, so please give me Caldari/Gallente/Minmatar setups. They should be fairly cheap, NOT have T2 weapons(except maybe frig/destroyer setups) as I'm only Amarr-specced for those, and should be T1 ships. I'm just interested in flying a new race, so keep in mind I won't have that many skills for this ship. I have no objection to a little bit of training however. I could do this in EFT, but I want tried-and-true setups, or at least well-thought out ones. You CAN give me Amarr ships, and I'll be happy to work with those if necessary, but I'm really out for a new experience here. It doesn't matter if it isn't the most effective ship out there for the job, just as long it can do it(IE don't be nervous about giving me artillery.) This is a fun way for me to spend my ISK, so as long as it's fun to fly, it's all good. If the ship is a pleasure to look at, that helps too, although it is certainly not necessary. Please give me setups, not just "rail ferox" or "rail Moa." In advance,
Thanks, Securitas

Ferox and Moa both have bonuses to optimal range, and are both inexpensive. Fit a full rack of the biggest medium guns, tracking computers with optimal range scripts, 3 mag stabs, and then the rest of the slots can be devoted to a buffer (LSE + Damage control). With your long range ammo, that should hit out pretty far, and if you train for T2 medium railguns, then spike will take you even farther.

Thanks for the setup! I was wondering, are there any good Gallente/Minmatar setups? Missiles, by the way, are NOT okay. Sorry, but I have all my skills in Gunnery.

You will hit about 85km optimal with plain T1 mods in a Ferox, for ... 74dps.
Your call, but i'd say T1 fitted snipers arent worthwhile.

Edited by: Haradgrim on 15/07/2008 19:35:46 1) you can snipe in a ferox but in most cases a drake will be better
2) Train for t2 medium guns if your going to do it, its less than 2 weeks and will make a big difference
3) Faction ammo is your friend, as good as spike is for getting the range, CN Lead and Iridium will usually be enough and they track way better which allows you to make use of the guns higher scan resolution and go after smaller targets. --

Well, you could always try a destroyer. The amarr destroyer can hit pretty decently well out there with t2 beams. Will be far more effective at GTFO than larger ships as well.

There really arent that many minmatar options, at least to get the range your looking for. A hurricane with 6 720mm Howitzer IIs and Tremor will probably only get you about 70km with optimal range mods. The Muninn is the best for what your looking for, minmatar-wise, but being a HAC is has a long training time, and is an expensive investment. You can probably get a bit more range out of a Brutix with rails, but I would suggest the Ferox with T2 medium rails.

Yeah. Pretty much the only way to hit at 100km+ and still do damage with a T1 fit.

Incidentally, that's what I fly. :) I was just looking for something else. Oh well, I'll just play around with some Caldari stuff.

Cheapest T1 sniper is probably a Caracal.

Sentry Vexor Sniper
Highs 3x Drone Link Augmentor I 2x Undefined
Mids 1x Sensor Booster (range script) 2x Omnidirectional Tracking Link I
Lows 1x Signal Amp II 1600 RT plate Voltaic Nanite Adaptive Membrane I DCU II
No Rigs
Drones Warden II's / Bouncer II's (or Warden I's until skilled to tech 2)
Will target out to 116 km with Longe Range Targeting V, or 112 km with Long Range Targeting IV
Drone Control Range of 105km without Electron Warfare drone interfacing. Train that skill up for extra control range if you want it.
With Drone Sharpshooting at IV and the two Omnidirectionals, Warden I's will hit out to 85km optimal with a falloff of 25km.
Drone Sharpshooting V and Warden II's will hit out to 105km optimal with a falloff of 30km
Drone Sharpshooting V and Bouncer II's will hit out to 84km optimal with a falloff of 42km.
3x Warden I's with Sentry Drone IV, Gallente Cruiser IV, Drone Interfacing IV, will do 136 Kinetic DPS at 85km 3x Warden II's at maxed skills will do 202 Kinetic DPS at 105km 3x Bouncer II's at maxed skills will do 236 Explosive DPS at 84km (190 DPS at 110km)
CPU is tight, but you can stretch the range out farther by sacrificing some buffer (the adaptive membrane) and using more named gear to equip an additional signal amp and and a drone link augmentor. This will allow you to use your sentry drones out into falloff.
If you want to go straight up sniper, equip 3x Omnidirectionals in the mids, 3x Signal amps in the lows, and you can use Bouncers out to an optimal of 94km, but you can only target out to 105km.
With Drones and Fittings, this is one of the cheapest 100km+ sniper ships at 10 - 11 mil ISK fully loaded. --

While the Vexor is the cheaper option, the Myrmidon do the same DPS with Sentry-Drone sniping, fit for better range, equip twice the buffer, and possess an MWD. It will however cost a good bit more and be a little less mobile in jumping from system to system.
Sentry Drone Myrmidon Sniper
Highs 4x Drone Link Augmentor I 2x Undefined
Mids 1x named MWD 1x Sensor Booster II (range script) 3x Omnidirectional Tracking Link I
Lows 2x 1600mm RT plate 2x Signal Amp II 1x EANM II 1x DCU II
With a CPU implant you could even squeeze a medium remote armor rep in the Highs
Targeting range of 135km, Drone control range of 125km without electron warfare drone interfacing.
Optimal of 118km (30km falloff) with Warden II's and 202 DPS at max skills.
Optimal of 94km (42km falloff) with Bouncer II's and 236 DPS at max skills.
Also a very cheap ship to fit and fly. --

200 DPS at 100+ km from a T1 cruiser! And 10,000,000 isk? Holy crap
A Ferox with tech2 250's, spike, and 2 MFS II's only does about 160 DPS at that range and costs 30,000,000+.

I believe Wannabehero was speaking of the Myrmidon, a T1 battlecruiser which costs about 30 million ISK for the hull alone.

He was, but he also mentioned that you can net the same DPS (200 DPS from Warden II) from a sentry drone vexor as you do a sentry drone myrmidon. A Vexor only runs about 4,000,000 isk where I'm at now, and tech II sentry drones cost a little under 1,000,000 isk. That plus the other fittings must be somewhere around the 10,000,000 mark for a sniping vexor.
I was trying to point out that if you deck out a Ferox with tech II guns and ammo you end up with a much more expensive ship that does less DPS at that range.
Also, after checking some stats, it turns out that the sentry drones will track better than a Ferox with spike ammo too, though they have a large sig resolution, so it might balance out.

Don't forget a Ferox in itself can be bought (if looking for it cheap) at around 17 mill isk, the insurance pays out more than the price of the ship. When i fit my Ferox out for sniping stupid nano-ships i only lose 3-5 mill isk everytime it goes pop, which i very rarely do.

Edited by: Tdog Dtank on 18/07/2008 13:20:29 Okay so I am a noob (Today is my third day playing Eve)I am a Caldari pilot. I am currently flying a Kestrel with 4 standard missle launchers.
Anyway I like the sound of a sniper ship, seems like it could fit my playstyle... A long range Scout/Sniper ship that will help in PvP and still be able to do PvE missions.
I was reading this thread. Use Rail guns not missles? Hmm I am liking missles alot... one shot, one kill at the moment... only doing level 1 missions so that explains that.
Can someone give me an idea of what I should work for to be able to run a good sniper PvP ship for Caldari (Caldari is what I am going to stick with for now)

As a Caldari Rail pilot myself, I can tell you it takes a long time to get good enough with railguns to feel dangerous as there are a lot of skills you need and Tech II railguns are really necessary. And all the gunnery support skills you train also help with blasters which are nice for DPS instead of range.
The Rokh battleship is your main goal: it has the tank and the right number of turret hardpoints to actually get respectable DPS. The Ferox even with 6 hardpoints is still a little anemic compared to the Drake, and the Moa is not bad for a tanking cruiser but won't scare anyone off with its damage.

good tank, decent damage out to lock range, and since your a gunnery piolet you know how to maneuver your ship to hit. I prefer blasters for pvp, but if your running a decent sized gang, the ferox will treat you well with rails as well. just remember to spec your fleet, and not just your ships individually
