Most of the topics are about frigates and battleships.
Anyone done testing with cruisers?
How badly will Power Cap Relay nerf affect cruisers along with MWD change?
What about missile changes?
Are there viable setups for likes of Thorax and Moa etc.? Or will blackbird be only useful cruiser left outside PvE context? -------------------------------------

Blackbird pre-patch: launches torpedoes doing 450 damage each. Blackbird post-patch: launches heavy missiles doing 150 damage each.
And you're talking about the Thorax somehow getting nerfed?

I know none of them will be the damage dealers they used to be. I am talking about usefulness in general, blackbird can be still used in many ways due to its flexibility. I just used Thorax and Moa as examples. -------------------------------------

Well Honestly Cruisers have been the "red-headed step children" of Eve for awhile now. I do agree with you however, the changes in missiles/launchers/MWD's are going to affect Cruisers in a profound way (IMO). The Moa I believe will fair better then most I believe, as it only had 2 launcher slots to begin with, and was given a +10% increase in Med. Hybrid optimal range (which is almost as good as an outright damage increase).
The Thorax I do not believe will be affected at all really, no missile slots, and so the MWD increases your Sig radius... no biggie, its not like cruisers were that much harder to target anyway.
The Blackbird is taking a big nerf, as now it cannot really fit anything that can do any real damage, it does however remain a potent EW ship.
The Caracal has been hit the hardest I believe, 5x Launchers... but with only being able to fire heavy Missiles... who knows maybe with 5x Assault Launchers it will make for a somewhat effective Anti-Frig ship .
The Rupture has been hit pretty hard by this change... most people setups were of the 3/3 type, now with only being able to fire heavys, alot of punch has been taken from it (that combined with the new falloff changes). As for some of the other tier2 and teir 1 cruisers... not real sure? as I haven't really see to many of them to begin with (aside from the Vexor, which makes a great ninja mining ship). I believe that TomB has already stated that he is looking at giving cruisers their much needed second ship bonuses, so hopefully that will breathe some life back into the most unloved ship class in eve.
Oh and while I'm on my cruiser rant... can something be done about the fitting req. for med. armor repairers? it will drive you to drink trying to find a viable armor tanking setup using one of those things... (you can fit one, but then try and fit any decent amount of weapons )
Hpefully these changes will work out in the long run?? I for one hope so...

Heh, I only use heavies on my Moa now, so it's actually making thing better for me

Your 250mm 'Scout' Accelerator Cannon perfectly strikes Serpentis Soldier, wrecking for 319.4 damage. |

Cruisrs got crapper survivability in Fleetganks
Cruisers dont have any thang that makes em spesial (frigates are fast and hard to lock, BS's are durable and pack firepower)
there is only 3 cruisers that are useful now: BB - caracal and Thorax
everything else is worse than them in cruiser class
and they are to expensive comparacing to the useless
they are just a practice to n00bs before they get theu BS's
.. ih yeah, and then we got the thorax -------------------------------------------

I used to use 4*250mm rails with 2 standard launchers loaded with heavy missiles and a damage mod. That won't be possible anymore, except maybe by extreme low slot optimization, and without damage mod.

In terms of PvP against Battleships in fleet combat, only the Blackbird has a role. EW. With maxed skills and two RCU's you can fit 1 Cruise Launcher on a Caracal. As missiles can be counterd if you know what you're doing, the Caracal is the hardest hit by the changes.
Thorax is by far the best Cruiser when used in a general role (rat hunting, mining, Cruiser Vs. Cruiser/Frigate combat).

They'll wait for the devs to breathe some life into cruisers.

Edited by: Gail on 24/05/2004 00:20:38 I think they seriously need extra mid/low slots depending on type of ship. Hi slots are fine. Turrets probably should be looked upon. Also a bit more grid/cpu again depending on ship type and its purpose.

I think they need the same amount of slots as a battleship.

I have to agree that we Cruiser pilots are not feeling the love with all the upcoming changes. While they are rather viable solo ships and good "stepping stones" to BS there needs to be more for them. I don't see these upcoming changes as helping the cruisers in any way shape or form. Never forget, a Jack-of-all-trades is master of none. |

I think the best solution is for the devs to actually look at, and think about, just what they're wanting to do and how it will affect *everyone* not just the BS-packing elite.

Agreed...
Then again, that's what the upcoming elite cruisers are for anyhow....Wouldn't be a bit surprised if their base stats are at least 20% better on average, compared to current cruisers, while adding one or 2 more slots in the process...

Dont forget the mini siege launchers to enable cruisers to load cruises/torps. But who knows how much grid/cpu they ll cost?

theyve been setup to be fitted on BS's as secondary weaponry (like heavy launchers on megathrons and apocs are now), not as primary cruiser launchers.
Somehwere above someone stated that its possible to fit ONE cruse launcher (=mini siege) on a caracal only. _______________________________________________
