Im thinking of jumping into a Tempest, but I need some second opinions about my setup since I havent been online for three months (and thus, don't know if I should refit it because of the nano-ships supposedly roaming around and the supposed minmatar nerf I've read in the forums). It is for use in a gang with mixed shipclasses. It's for pvp-use of course.
This is the setup I was thinking about:
HIGH 6x 800mm Heavy 'Scoute' Repeating Artillery I (ac)
MED 2x Heavy Electrochemical Capacitor Booster I (im cap-paranoid) 1x Warp disrupter II 1x Stasis Webifier II 1x MWD (named)
LOW 1x Large 'Accommodotion' Vestment Reconstructer I (repper) 1x Armor Thermic Hardener II 1x Armor Kinetic Hardener II 1x Armor Explosive Hardener II 2x Gyrostabilizer II
RIGS Anti-Kinetic Pump I Anti-Explosive Pump I Anti-EM Pump I
However, my DPS is as low as 493 with EMP, and only 597 with faction EMP, and keep in mind that I've equiped 2 gyros II already. Is it supposed to be like this? And about the armor rigs, yea I know it slows me down to 800ms when using MWD, but I think it is a fair trade for the extra resistance buffing it up to 72/70/75/70 compared to the modest 60/70/66/59 without them. Being in pvp with armor tanking, its only natural to put on the webber and the scram, but lets say that someone else is tackling, what would you put in those two med-slots?
Any advice?

Your DPS would be a bit better with AC's, but if you don't have t2 AC don't bother imo. Arty is pretty crap atm, as is the tempest for most intents and purposes.

Edited by: Liang Nuren on 15/07/2008 21:02:01 I'd try to use the utility slots for arby sieges or neuts. In 0.0, the decision is almost certainly neuts, and use your fifth mid for either an ECCM or tracking computer.

I like the Tempest. That, and I don't have good missile skills to use the Typhoon or shield skills to use the Maelstrom. But if anyone got a good closerange Maelstrom setup that is up to date, feel free to share!

The problem is that my heap of junk don't have PG enough to use my two utility slots, unless I drop a armor rig and put on a PG rig.

Edited by: Happster on 15/07/2008 21:24:23 It depends a lot on what gang you gonna roam with, and your goal with the roaming. What will be your target?
You dont need T2 guns, but it sure helps a lot. Use faction EMP, Titanium and Phased Plasma.
For 0.0 fight i would plate it, and use RR.
Even though Tempest isnt so good anymore, i find it still the best Minmatar ship to use when doing RR gangs...

Soyemia.. it depends just how crappy your missile skills are. For a long long time my Matari had 5K SP in missiles. ;-)

Woops. Was reading quickly, saw named guns and the word artillery and went with it My bad. That said, don't use AC until you can use barrage, at least imo.

You shouldnt laugh too much about this.
AC's takes a lot of skillpoints to do some damage...
If you fit torps on a phoon you dont really need that much skillpoints to outdamage your AC's ;)

Thanks for the input everybody. Im on my way on getting T2 ac's, after that Im going to work on my missile skills seeing as I already have Minmatar BS5 and most of my turret supportskills at 4/5. But until then Im using named ac's on my tempest. If you got more advice, keep em' coming!

Edited by: AstroPhobic on 15/07/2008 22:18:40 Here's some advice: train another race. Matari battleships aren't worth it. The tempest sucks, the maelstrom is limited into a small niche, and I'm convinced that the typhoon has the minmatar effect. The same one that makes pilots claim their maelstrom is a beast at mission running. I'm not saying it's bad, I think it's quite good, but it's outdone by the mega at close range, the geddon at mid range, and the raven at every range.

tempest is still ok in gang, it has 5 mids so use 1 for eccm atleast
something like this:
6x 800mm ac, siege launcher, large remote rep or siege/heavy neut mwd, point, webb, eccm, heavy or med injector (you dont need a lot of cap) 2x 1600mm plate, eanm II, 2x gyro
dps is not on gallente or amarr lvl but not that far behind, but its a lot harder to jam with the eccm! and theres falcons everywhere nowdays :)
typhoon will allso outdps tempest AND have more hitpoints lol

Neither the tempest nor the typhoon do well actively tanked. My tempest setup for gang work only:
High: 800mm II x 6 Arbalest siege x 2 Medium: 100 MN MWD II Large Shield Extender x 2 Invulnerability Field II Photon Scattering Field II Low: Gyrostabilizer II x 3 Overdrive Injector II x 2 Damage Control II Rigs: Core Defense Field Extender x 3
900 DPS. 23k in shield. 1913m/s at full speed. 2747m/s overheated. That's about as good as you're going to get with it. You can swap out a siege launcher for a nos if you're concerned w/ cap.

I'm sorry, honestly. Every race has a better sniper. Megathron, Rokh, Apoc all easily outdo the tempest in sniping. But their ships aren't vertical and they don't have sexy pirate masts.

The pest his good because of the two utility highslots, and it actually have the CPU to make good use of them when armor tanking. My suggestion, heavy neuts, especially has you'll have loads of cap from your cap boosters. That means downgrading the guns. Also I'd drop a gyro for a Damage Control.

I setup as below and love to fly the pest in a remote rep gang and fleet ops.
Highs: 6 x 650 II's 1 x Heavy Nuet 1 x Large RR Mids: 1 x 100mn AB II 1 x Sensor Booster II 1 x Disruptor II 1 x Web II 1 x cap booster 800's Lows: 2 x 1600 plates 2 x EANM II's 2 x Gyro II's Rigs: 3 x Trimarks
Cap booster is just to run the nuet and RR, works great in a small gang.
Fleet fit
Highs: 6 x 1200 II's 1 x Large RR Mids: 1x 100mn AB 3 x sensor booster (2 range 1 speed) 2 x tracking comps Lows: 1 x 1600 plate 1 x DCU II 3 x gyro II 1 x tracking enhancer Rigs: 3 x trimark if your feeling flush
Hits out to 200k easy and thats beyond the range of any fleet fight iv been in.

tried AB some time and its death on the first gate camp. if you dont plan to move consider to drop it and fit something more useful.
tbh i never used 1200 in fleet battle because if 1400 are bad 1200 are even worse. if i didnt miss a optimal range boost to 1200 your 200 km are probably optimal + falloff, and fighting at optimal + falloff isnt good at all

Gate camps are no problem in 150+ man fleet! That has support?
yes 200k is in falloff but generaly we fight in fleet sniper role at just over optimal range 100-150k, I didnt say the DPS was good at 200k it can hit just out that far if needed?
I sometimes role with no AB and put another tracking comp in there!

when i said that i was just pointing out that AB is useless, when you need a AB you should have a mwd and if you dont need it just drop it. you said 200k easy but 200k at optimal +falloff with 1200mm isnt easy is just a crap sniping BS.
not pointing the finger at your fit but im trying to advice who plan to train large projectile to think seriously about it before using 30-60 days worth of training.
