Linkage
4 out of 6 capital cities - gone 4 melee classes - gone (2 of those 4 were supposed to be the primary tanks for the races they belong to) ...and god knows what else too.
It's like a cavalcade of mediocrity in the entire MMO space this past year, what the hell ?

its called rush it out a few months before Wrath of the Lich King in hopes that we will secure people and we wont have to fight a WoW expansion head on for sales.
of course they could end up pulling a VanguardSOH and becoming a minimal challenge on the MMO front.

Well if the 2 cities they do have are so much better than what we currently see in MMOs I guess it won't be too bad...

Ofcourse if you actually bothered reading their reasons for the changes you may find that they did it so that it WOULD be more polished at launch.
Sure you can argue that all that content has gone but surely quality over quantity is preferable?
Yes okay they could have put the release date back 6 months and finished the lot BUT half the gamers of the world are to ******ed to realise that postponements are actualy (if frustrating) a good thing.
Just because they have pulled all these things from launch oesnt mean that they wont be added at another time. Infact i think (assumng the game gets some kind of player base) you can count on them being reintroduced.
Sure you can naysay and doomsay all you want but im going to actually play the game before i start whining about how its going to be another MMOPOS.

Edited by: Meiyang Lee on 16/07/2008 08:59:58 Yoshi, sofar I've been playing that game for about 8 months, and trust me, Akita's closer to the money than you'd think. The cutting of the capitals won't matter all that much. (they changed the City Siege mechanic to compensate)
But the classes are important since they're literally cutting the 2 most fun melee classes (Orc Choppa and Dwarf Hammerer) aswell as the Disorder Caster/Avoidance Tank (the Dark Elf Black Guard) and one of the Order heavy tanks (the human Knight of the Blazing Sun)
Now the loss of one of the heavy tanks isn't to bad for Order, they have another which is the Dwarf Ironbreaker, but the loss of the primary magic tank will hurt Disorder, sure the Chaos Chosen can handle part of what the Black Guard could but doesn't have nearly the anti-magic options of the other.
Add to that the fact that mOlTe combat still feels like fighting while dunked in wallpaper paste (very slow and cumbersome) and you'll see that this game will have some serious problems to overcome to even launch well. It looks a lot better now though, most of the lighting is in place and the game world now feels dark and brooding as it should.

They had plenty of time to "polish" stuff. The capitals gone, well, ok, that can be helped, but cutting out NECESSARY gameplay elements because they're "not quite polished" enough will severely hurt their launch. In the end, this is just another grind'em'up WoW-style clone, and so far there have really been, what, only three noteworthy games that I'm aware of that even tried to cut the crap in that aspect (EVE being the only one actually in service so far)... but I digress... fact is, for THAT kind of game, launch day playability is CRUCIAL to that game's success or failure. So, yeah, QUALITY is better than QUANTITY... but in this case, the cutoffs severely hurt QUALITY, and it would be in their best interest to introduce the slightly less polished classes for the sake of gameplay quality. So far it looks like failboat is preparing to dock with their launch day via choices made.
Quote: Yes okay they could have put the release date back 6 months and finished the lot BUT half the gamers of the world are to ******ed to realise that postponements are actualy (if frustrating) a good thing.
Ever heard of that company called Blizzard ? They tended to almost always postpone their (admitedly, single player) games, and all it would do is raise the hype levels... and somehow, still, they DID manage to rise up to the expectations most of the time, in spite of the over-hyping.
Quote: Just because they have pulled all these things from launch oesnt mean that they wont be added at another time. Infact i think (assumng the game gets some kind of player base) you can count on them being reintroduced.
Of course they'll get introduced. At a later time, when most players that started paying got bored with the lack of features, and word of mouth is already running them downhill. And with the omnipresent WoW shadow looming over their heads, it would take a really dedicated fan of the franchise (which I'm not) to even bother sticking around much.
Quote: Sure you can naysay and doomsay all you want but im going to actually play the game before i start whining about how its going to be another MMOPOS.
These type of signs generally do not lie. And these signs say "we care about fast cash more than customer satisfaction". And in the end, that means "we got your money, now shut the hell up, if you put up with it so far, you will keep doing so in the future, OR ELSE".

Well, THQ holds the complete Warhammer 40K license, so Mythic couldn't have tried even if they wanted to. That said, THQ is working on a 40K MMO, but they only started on it early this year, so it'll be a few years before we see it.

Was gutted when i heard this. Some of the classes i was most looking forward to and also one of the main reasons i was wanting to play was to see the capital cities of each race but now thats gone and with it a lot of my interest.

WHO seems to the WoW2 from what I've seen on videos. They shouldn't have went in the Warhammer Fantasy Battle direction (shiny, colorful, boast-some-more) but instead the Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay direction (dark, forbidding, cruel and dirty). Would have had more individuality that way and entered a niche that isn't really occupied yet instead of trying to rival the largest established mmo around. -------- Ideas for: Mining |

Edited by: Micheal Dietrich on 16/07/2008 15:20:19 I think this will be the straw that breaks the camels back for me. I've been patient as hell with this game and EA Mythic and as much as I love fantasy warhammer I am not playing a half ass'd game. Think I'll save my money for Earthrise.
EDIT: Anyone that knows mythic knows that this shit is actually quite common for them.

Definately this. The PnP occupational system for warhammer fantasy was imo superior to all the d20 stuff that went on back when I used to play that kind of thing. Rat-catcher ftw :)
