Edited by: Le Skunk on 16/07/2008 14:59:51 Hi
I know a few other people have suffered from this and wondered if anyone had found a workaround / or had suffered from it to.
THE SYMPTOMS
You initiate warp to somewhere, and something happens to knock your ship slighlty eg
- Somebody bumps you - You bump into the gate
This results in you
- VERY SLOWLY re aligning to whatever you are warping to - Warp speed is well over what you normally need to warp and creeping up - WARP CANNOT BE CANCELED. Using the stop command or keyboard shortcut is ignored by the client.
So you end up with "unstoppable warp syndrome" and have to sit waiting for large periods of time waiting for it to do something.
Ive seen it before when being bumped outside a station after warp is initiated.
CASE EXAMPLE 1
Friend in a freighter undocks an initiates warp. A vaga bumps him - not very far - only a few KM and well withing the 30km station undock bubble. Erring on the side of caution he decides to stop warp and redock until its safer.
Clicks stop ship.... warp continues to creep up. Click keyboard shortcuts.... warp continues to creep up. Vaga continuley rebumped him out of dock range then he was killed.
CASE EXAMPLE 2
Happened to me. I was sat on a gate getting shot at by sentries and clicked to warp out. Ran into the gate as i was aligning to warp out, which delayed the warp, then kept bumping into it as i was trying to warp.
So i clicked stop with the intention of manually piloting around the gate to get a clear run up.... no such joy.
I was unable to stop warp in any form, and instead just kept bumping into the gate at different angles. After a couple of mins - a chance glance from the gate cleared me from it - by this time my tanks was looking a bit iffy.
CASE EXAMPLE 3
I bumped an alt in a hauler with my main as a test of bump speeds. The alt had initiated warp - but when bumped was unable to stop the warp countdown. As i continued to bump him - he continued to be unable to do anything as he was in "the unstopable warp"
So to recap - ha anyone else suffered from this - and would be interested to learn of any workarounds for it.
regards
SKUNK

Yep,
Lost a faction fitted CNR in a mission due to this bug. Exactly the same as you are describing; I bumped a structure then aligned again and went all the way to fullspeed but no warp. Cancelling didnt work either. I even logged and logged back on. Auto warp back to mission worked fine, but initiating warp from mission gave the same problems as earlier >> minus one CNR
Guess what the petition dude said...."our serverlogs do not indicate something is wrong".
Hey, it's only 1.5B down the drain

Yeah, I've noticed this problem before when it's nice and laggy. Play the Celeste Lottery! |

CTRL+Space always have to work to stop the warp. So far i now it doesnt work if your warp is already above 50% to jump. If not its a clientside problem mostly caused by a communication or data stream bug.
Beside that everything is stoppable by disconnecting from the and waiting for 30 seconds.

Can you eject from the ship? (And then immediately re-board of course.)

Yeah, this is a desync and lag related issue. Until the GM's have the proper tools to log these kinds of network related events, their logs will never show anything.
Makes you wonder, how much longer is that line, "Logs show nothing", will hold water.
The GM's need better tools, better diagnostics to create logs for the problems players are encountering.
It's getting a bit annoying to hear that logs show nothing and yet the problems are real.

Edited by: Nicoli Malthus on 18/07/2008 16:30:16 I've seen and had this problem happen several times before. It's an issue, and the fact that they ignore something so simple the fix, is quite pathetic!

Edited by: Luzz Bightyear on 23/07/2008 00:32:03 I lost an Osprey mining in low sec like this. Someone with a cloak jumped me, and I bumped an asteroid trying to warp. I would have escaped if my ship had just warped off normally after that, but instead it just aligned... and then just traveled in a straight line. Stop ship did nothing. I got no message saying I was warp scrambled (3 warp stabs).
That sucked.
I didn't make a petition, I know full well about the 'our logs show nothing' excuse. ------------------
