Originally by: Serenity Steele This issue was taken up by the Council of Stellar Management as an unofficial issue to CCP in Reykjavik during the 3 day conference in mid-June. In short, it is a commercial issue for CCP, and not open to discussion.
Cute, its not open for discussion? So the player base's opinion must mean less than people sitting around a desk gonig, "lets make it easy. 60day gtcs It won't ruin the market at all!".
Don't give me that crap. Explain why it was an "economical choice" for CCP and maybe we'll find it easier to justify having such an inflated GTC market.

Edited by: Soronova on 17/07/2008 11:09:24 Yeah, a clear response from CCP to the obvious anger amongst the player base would be nice. But it's never happened yet, so I wont hold my breath.
But fully SIGNED!

signed, the way i understand it, CCP got ticked at the EU players who were going around and buying GTCs at US prices because it was affectivly cheaper. So they struck a ballance between both US and EU prices as reflected by the poster on page 2(I think) who said it's 23 dollars for a month the normal way and 17.50 through GTCs. All in all CCP didn't screw it up as bad as everyone seems to think, but thats from a financial view point. I am, however, tired of losing my long time friends to this crap. I think that CCP needs to seriusly consider their position, no matter how commercial, because if they start losing players there will be a long term fallout that is almost impossible to calculate. EVE is a highly social game, and if to many of one's friends leave then they'll leave too. I would also love to see the cost benefit analysis on this one, it doesn't sound like the higher prices will compensate for the lower sales, specially when considering the running costs of 1 account for 1 month.

The way I see this is, because the RL price of the 60 day GTCs has gone up to close to the same cost as the old 90 day GTCs, people are unwilling to buy them to sell on for isk.
This has 2 effects:
1, It means that people who pay with isk because they can't afford to pay any other way will have to close their accounts due to the ever increasing cost of the codes and CCP will lose those subscriptions(due to huge mark ups by the sellers, and lack of sellers offering codes for isk).
2, People who already pay real money to play are much less likely to want to pay almost as much for a 60 day code as for an old 90 day code in order to play the game and again ccp will lose subscriptions.
The current global econimic situation is that everything is getting far more expensive due to the dwindling supply of oil and other fuels. Electricity prices are going up, natural gas prices are going up, food prices are going up. Inflation is a fact of economic life and while I agree that CCPs costs are probably going up too, they have to look at this from the players perspective aswel.
If the cost of "playing a game" increases then priorities are going to come into effect and people are going to choose staying warm during winter. They are going to choose putting food on the table. They are going to choose filling the fuel tank on the family car so they can get to work over choosing to pay for a game.
CCP have shot themselves in the foot by changing the way GTCs are implemented because the re-sellers have capitalised (and still are) on the demand for them. Even if the 30 day and 90 day codes came back I can honestly say the prices probably wouldn't come down, and if they did it would take a long time to happen.
The story of the golden goose comes to mind for some reason.
Well done CCP. Corporate suicide FTW.
TL;DR version: I support this thread but CCP is greedy and won't listen.

I got 2 active accounts atm, and will drop one because of the current gtc prices..
I already had my eyes on opening a 3th account supported with gtc-isk but at current prices it's just insane.
Like most i feel screwed over. Option to use Sub or GTC?? not anymore ! If they brought 1 gtc of 60days they should atleast price is so it is equaly prices ad subscriptions! and not more...
That's ripping people off imo! 2 prices for the same time ?
Anyway, I might even leave eventualy... and i'm sure more of us will. TimeCards Saves Money |
