Not really a huge surprise...but here it is. It seems to have taken BW and LA off guard though since they don't deny it, but refuse to comment on the announcement.
Link to article.
Published by EA...but it's BW so I'll give it the benefit of the doubt just for that. -Zyck |

It's still EA, and should be EF for Epic Fail, especially when it comes to MMOGs. They just don't seem to understand that money still needs to injected into the game after launch.

Well, given how high up in EA BioWare-founder Ray Muzyka is now I'd be very surprised if BW got pushed while designing this.

Damn, beat me to it. I don't know, I got faith in Bioware regardless of EA owning their company now. And I am sure they will do it right and release it on their timetable instead of EA's. All the subhuman CEO's at EA has to do is look at the failboat that is SOE's Star Wars Galaxies to see how NOT to do a MMO. Post NGE of course.

Let me teach you something about giant conglomerates. They don't learn things. When they look at SWG they are puzzled. They go "I don't get it! Sony did everything they could to turn their awful game into a lovely little WoW clone and yet they lost people. Maybe it was aliens? Maybe it was mind control? Ahhh who cares, I'm sure our little WoW clones will do fine.....oooh Maybe I can sneak off to the bordelo during my lunch break"

With how draconian EA is taking on copy-protection nowadays, sad but true, Bioware included with Mass Effect. -

I see nothing wrong with a company trying to protect its profits.
However, I think that they should put some effort in educating users/customers about it - explain how it works and how they should go about using it so they don't hang themselves out to dry.

Damn, I had hoped that the MMORPG Bioware will create, will have some unique scenario.
I think the whole Star Wars Franchise, including all prequels, sequels and whatever was overused and is now only an empty shell. A cashcow depleted of any charming or original content.

Because the original KOTOR was (imo) the best Star Wars RPG ever conceived, if only because it was an original story, not another clone of the hexology's story.
It was good to the point where it could be looked at as better then the moves in story, by a long shot.
Plus, Bioware is known for it's well done RPGs in general, Jade Empire is another of my favorites.

Try to name one bad RPG done by Bioware.
It's a shame that they didn't do KOTOR II...
Let's see how they do with MMO's. Also, wasn't Mass Effect created since EA conquered Bioware?

Only the PC port (which was done with the assistance of Demiurge), the 360 version of ME was out well before Bioware was aquired by EA.

Edited by: HankMurphy on 24/07/2008 00:49:28 i read it. but really, what does that mean? MMO Component?
Its simple. Unless your making a single player game that has an online deathmatch/whatever attached to it (and that's hardly mmo territory), your making an online game.
Kotor I, Kotor II, i can beat those games, see an ending... this will not be the case with a MMO because if you could, who the hell would play it again?
I understand i'm being a bit short sighted and presumptive , but my guess is they are just beating around the bush
Reading the rest of the article, its obvious that the #1 focus and intention is a MMO, not a sweet storyline RPG with a "once upon a time" (or in this case "long long ago") AND "the end" ------------------------------ of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most |

That was one of the worst steaming piles of crap I've played (compared to the original, and even on it's own it was pretty downright terrible)

The second KOTOR was a good game, but the storyline and characters were not as interesting as in the first part of the series. The game also suffered from the fact that it was rushed out and large parts of the content were cut. What left the game a big dissappointment was, that the ending of the game was clearly unfinished.

When you're playing a linear RPG with limited free world, and the game is pretty much all about the storyline, such as Half Life 2 and KOTOR, (Half Life being a shooter, but whatev, it's still an RPG too) and the storyline is crap?
all I remembered from the story was *SPOILER* that one darth noob guy (nihilus or whatever) wanted to kill me, so I killed him in 5 seconds, and that one b!tch woman was a sith lord, so I killed her.
If the main storyline in, say, Oblivion, was bad, it wouldn't matter as much because it's free world and has more side content than an MMO. But in KOTOR-style RPGs it makes or breaks the game.

I have said that the storyline and characters were not as good as in the first KOTOR, but not that they were bad. The first KOTOR was really excellent regarding the story and I still consider the story of KOTOR ll as good. KOTOR is in many aspects better then 90% of the RPG games that came out in the last years.
If you can ignore the ending, then there was really great storytelling on Peragus, Nar Shadaa or Korriban. It is a shame that Obsidian did not have more time to make the good parts of KOTOR ll excellent.

kotor II had way better writing than the first one, shame they never got to finish it.
It sucks that the next ones an mmo, the story was all the first 2 had going for them.

yea, i've been watching team gizka project like a hawk. I only have the Xbox versions of both games (very soon to be remedied) and I must say that Kotor 1 is way better than 2.
The only reason for this is the story, in one they took their time and did it right. in two they tried to rush it out for Christmas, and left about 30% of the game unfinished, but didn't close any of the gaps. so you had hints of stories here, a locked door there, that you know is supposed to lead to something, but doesn't...its infuriating!
