I need someone to explain to me why when I was attacked Concord did not show up as stated in the aggression rules. Here is the situation:
1) I was running a mission in 0.9 space. 2) Another player came into my mission and started stealing my loot. 3) He flashed red. (at this point I was not showing an agression timer) 4) I fired on him and he left. 5) I figured he would be back and since i was not set up to PVP I aligned to a station. 6) He showed up in a BS, I left. 7) I wait the 15 minutes for the aggression timer to count down and then it did. 8) I went to get a salvager ship to pick up my loot and salvage. When I came back tot he system, the agression timer came back on, I had not done anything. 9) I went to salvage my loot and the pirate was still there. still flashing. 10) He tried to extort me, fired on me and Concord did not show up. 11) I set the self destruct because i do not pay extortion money and he blew up the salvager.
I do not get it... when the aggression timer ran out, why would it start again? If it didn't would Concord show up? I do not understand why this happened and what the rules are.... I can find no clear rules list. because I should not have aggressed again after the 15 minutes. There is a bug and it should be fixed.
Or am I missing something

Edited by: Karrade Krise on 18/07/2008 21:34:43 Yea, the Timers are jacked, it's not that they don't work, it's just that they don't show EXACTLY when the timer is up...
It's 15 minutes after last agro, but if at 2 minutes in you attack him, the timer resets, although it wont show you that.
It's a display problem that CCP doesn't care about fixxing...
Next time make sure you wait an extra few minutes before you go back out after waiting out the timer. Seems to be the only remedy to it.

He probably fliped one of the cans of loot. You picked it up and you became his target.

Edited by: P''Tang on 19/07/2008 01:33:35 Well, let me ask this question: what was the time delay between the time he flashed red and the time you initially fired on him?
Your timer began before his did; as soon as you fired upon him, he got a fresh 15 minutes. So if you ventured out after yours had disappeared but while his 15 was still active, he had every opportunity to shoot you consequence-free.
In other words: just because it disappears on your screen doesn't mean his had disappeared from your firing upon him.

Why not just shoot the wrecks?
I've rarely had anyone invade my missions to steal the salvage. On the rare occasion that someone does try I target the closest wrecks to them and destroy them.
After the first or 2nd wreck I pop they warp off since it is a waste of their time to stay. I've never had someone bother to intrude on any other missions of mine a second time.

Not sure but did the continue agression after you docked by shooting or scrambling one of your wrecks or cans? I think that used to work but it maybe an exploit... or long gone and fixed.

*sigh* how can there be so many replies and no one knows the answer to the OPs question? Why do you even bother posting if you don't understand game mechanics and cannot help?
OP: here is what he did: once you fire on him he's allowed to fire back on you. Every act of aggression between the two of you, from that point on, resets the 15 minute timer for BOTH of you. HERE'S THE BIG TRICK: he shot your loot cans.
Him firing on your loot cans that remained in the mission counts as an act of aggression. That's the trick. He shot your loot cans. He knew that the timer is bugged and does not update for you while you sit in station waiting for the timer to go away.
For all you mindless, braying posters: test this sometime. Don't waste bandwidth with ridiculous posts of stupid information and "protips" that help no one.

the answer to the OP's question (shooting cans resets the timer invisibly)
good to know, though not exactly obvious. however, as the rules regarding aggression are not explicitly spelled out in a complete form anywhere and the aggression timer has a particular aversion to displaying itself in many circumstances, i think we can expect many more of these threads in the future.
CCP, can you pretty please fix the aggro timer? maybe just give us a nice flashy red notification on-screen when someone can aggress us? maybe fast-track a new aggro-timer system for the next major patch? give us SOMETHING that displays in synchrony with the aggro timer.
hell, just sticky a thread in ONE of the forums that displays the complete, unabridged rules of aggro with all the caveats, bugs, and particularities. fairy dust would rain on CCP headquarters if you did

completely correct, only thing i want to point out, that if you shoot wrecks (or containers or whatever) and pilot you want to agress is not docked, timer will be updated for both of you. but like in this case, if pilot is docked it will not be updated untill you undock. Also to op, so why you flew to salvage if you saw agression renewal ?

Edited by: Kazang on 21/07/2008 00:18:53 For a start the aggression timers dont display correctly, as other people have already said. So when you pulled into the station, with your aggression timer gone, it actually wasn't, its display error.
Then the second problem is that when you change session, in this case got into your destroyer, it resets the timer that you think has finished. This also doesn't display. So you got another 15mins in your dessy which you promptly took into your mission flashing red to your friendly neighbourhood pirate. Or it happened vice versa, if he swapped ships before the 15 mins was up, which he did, his 15 mins would have been refreshed, thus leaving you red to him.
Or he could have simply shot the cans as someone else has said.

You're right; we should have asked for your permission to post before actually posting. Thank Jesus you're here. If it weren't for you, people would actually try to troubleshoot or work out problems via discussion. I shudder to think what a world we'd live in if discussion were allowed, or even *GASP* encouraged! The horror...
