Ello All, Ive installed EVE on my pc @ work but it wont run due to a sound issue. Im getting this error message:-
`Audio hardware acceleration not detected The sound system will use only software channels until you get at least 12 hardware channels to work on your computer.
Please make sure you have correct audio drivers installed.'
Its a brand spanking new P4, 2.8 HP Compaq, XP Pro with `SoundMAX Digital Intergrated Audio'. Now i know its not the best sound hardware in the World but it aint that bad Any of u smart cookies got any ideas? Im reluctant to ***** about with it too much cos im trying to do this on the quiet if u know what i mean
Cheers

That EVE doesn't run must have some other reason. The audio message is just a warning, EVE runs even without "audio acceleration", just with fewer bells and whistles.
Since it's a workplace PC and you mentioned integrated audio - what graphics adapter does it have? If it's some chipset with integrated video (like Intel), then that's the reason. EVE requires hardware T&L, and that basically means that you need a nVidia or ATI card. In the support section of this website all compatible cards are listed somewhere.

Hmm, according to the info I could find on Google, that card has an nVidia Quadro2 FX chip, which should be enough for EVE.
Do you have DirectX 9.0b and the newest drivers installed?
Although, considering the history of ELSA AG, "newest drivers" may not mean much. They died a few years ago, then came back as a zombies, and got banished to the netherworld again. And latest rumors have it that someone is trying to raise them again. Sad story, really

Edited by: NGRU Rix on 02/06/2004 13:11:16 Quadro cards are not gaming cards. They are for professional workstation graphics such as Auto Cad and 3D Studio Max.
Graphics Standards : OpenGL??API (Windows 2000, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 98 and Windows Me), DirectX 3 (Windows NT 4.0), DirectX 7 and DirectX 8 (Windows 2000, Windows 98, Windows Me), XFree86 (Linux)
It does not have the hardware support for DirectX 9 it seems.
As for the sound issue - make sure your audio acceleration is on full and it should nix that issue. Why would a brand spanking new system have such an old graphics card in it anyway?

Problem is nothing to do with graphics.
Most Integrated sound cards have no hardware mixing channels & this is the reason for the warning.
There is hope, ignore it as Eve plays fine working in software mode, infact it seems more stable to me in that mode.
Just ignore the error & proceed. (Make sure you put a tick in the "Dont tell me again" Box)
