Hey.
I was wondering, together with some friends what we can expect from the new ships that will be added over time..
The elite frigates. What can we expect the different new ships to be good at? Same goes with the elite cruisers.
What about destroyers? Where will they fit in. Between Battleships and Cruisers?. What about skills regs, since they are going to pop out of the "ship skill tree" (frigat for cruiser, cruiser for battleship.). What about weapons? Medium or large? Or a mix?
Just wondering, would be great if we could hear what the ideas are so far.
Also feel free to share what you hope to see from the new ship classes/types, or maybe if you got ideas for other types of ships.. ------------- Most tired of thing atm: - Mods on the forum saying: "Please use the bug report page to submit bugs, the forum is not the place to post them." and then closing a topic. |

In naval terms, destroyers come after frigates and before cruisers. Dreadnoughts, I don't know since there hasn't been one in like, a century... but this was reserved for the ship class above battleships, I think. Battle cruisers come between cruiser and battleship.

So -- I've read a wee bit and have some minor familiarity. An expert could give more detail, more accurately, but here's my summary:
Battlecruisers and dreadnoughts were part of the same naval development -- Jackie Fisher's belief in the power of big guns and fast ships, simply said. ;) If a ship both outranged another and was faster than it, it could stay out of the enemy's effective range and maintain bombardment indefinitely by preventing the other ship's escape -- ultimately resulting in a clean, certain victory. Technical developments of the time in regard with metallurgy, engineering and the like also resulted in somewhat tougher ships -- though British ships of the first World War had some shortcomings in regard to protection of magazines that occasionally led to a fireworks display. As an aside, the common conception about increased toughness of the dreadnoughts is also developed as part of Germany's approach to ship design: "A ship's primary purpose is to not sink," I think the line is. ;)
Anyway, battlecruisers and dreadnoughts were simply technical and doctrinal developments on cruisers and battleships that focused on higher speeds and greater firepower/range. In the case of the battlecruiser, I suspect we'd see an EVE equivalent that might be able to mount battleship-class weapons -- not many or very large, but still heavier than a normal cruiser. As for the dreadnought? It appears that what we'll see is even more turret slots -- so simply -more- firepower, instead of bigger guns. I doubt the developers will make new classes of weapons for the new ships, seeing as these ships are bound to be 'elite' classed ships, instead of all new designs or ship classes.

One thing thats sure (based on the info you find under updates in EVE insider), is that the Battle Cruiser will just be an Elite Cruiser, and not a whole new "class" like the destroyer would be.
The elite cruisers wont be changed much from the cruisers we have now most likely.
The destroyers will get new models I think. ------------- Most tired of thing atm: - Mods on the forum saying: "Please use the bug report page to submit bugs, the forum is not the place to post them." and then closing a topic. |

The battle-cruisers are going to be a fantastic addition, as it will allow smaller corporations to field a powerful, mobile force for the fraction of the cost of a battle-ship force. They'll also (hopefully) lead to some fantastic hit 'n' run moments arising, with the more mobile battle-cruisers letting of a surge of fire, before retreating where the battle-ships will be unable to follow.
I imagine the dreadnought-class ships will assume the role of 'flagship', and sit near-stationary at the back of a fleet unleashing enormous firepower onto select targets.

ANd I'm willing to bet that we can expect to have these new ships randomly get "glued" to our ships while travelling through systems from time to time.

"I was wondering, together with some friends what we can expect from the new ships that will be added over time.."
Based on previous, ie Interceptors....then
The Caracal will get a red nose paint job ...Name it A Battlecruiser..
The Moa will get a red Belly paint job ...Then call it a Dreadnought..
Oh and change some stats on the ships then nerf them later.....
Apply to any ships in any race race and there you are
red paint means new ships ...Caldari try green for gallante hmm Brown for Amarr and pick any other color for the others...
I hope the NEW ships are new and not Ford Fiesta's re-named as Fusion etc....

heres your answer From this thread:

Originally by: Macumba I hope we're going to have proper models with the new ship classes and not what they did with interceptors. Re-skinning and adding a couple of bits of muck from your prefabs directory does not make it a new ship, it just makes them look rushed and smacks of laziness. Even though at heart they're just a +2 hat instead of a +1 hat, new models would be nice.
Interceptors, along with Special Ops, Gunships and all other elites are the Tech Level 2 version of an Tech Level 1 ship. Hence it uses the same model - since its the same ship, only better.
Ship classes are like Frigates, Cruisers and Battleships. To this we are adding Destroyers, Battlecruisers, Dreadnoughts, Carriers and Titans. These are new classes so they will have their own models.

It would be nice if they let some of the new elite frigates use cruise missles. What is the point of having a bomber that can only shoot light missles?

So the devs does not know for sure if the battle cruiser is a elite cruiser (look in eve insider under updates) or a new class.. (look at post above.) heh.. I'm still asking when will the rest of the elite frigates come to the game.

I'd actually not be surprised if covert ops frigates appear in the next couple of weeks, given that covert ops ships and cloaking are rather closely related, as per the designs of the devs. ;) TomB said that he was planning on 'releasing some new stuff' for the T2 drawings with the next patch that added content, and I suspect this next one will get cloaking onto TQ.
As for the 'new ship classes,' well -- notice how the interceptors in the ships market section are not under the same classing as frigates, cruisers and battleships. They are a very specific class/role of vessel that is distinctly different from the usual class of frigate -- and so one can both class them -as- frigate, seeing as they are of the size and shape, but also as interceptor -- as distinguished from the frigate class. In other words, I think the devs are splitting hairs on the 'new classes of vessels' thing and using a very fine definition of class. ;)
