Hi Guys,
My computer is able to use the premium graphics content. My system is,
Intel Core Duo 2, 1.6Ghz T5500 Geforce Go7300 2GB Ram
It is worth upgrading, or should I just stick with the current graphics setup?
Apologies if this is in the wrong bit of the forum!

Depends on what kind of income you have. If you have some extra money then you should upgrade your CPU as it just meets minimum specs for eve. Intel Pentium« IV 1.5 GHz. And eve can really suck up CPU, even more so in classic.
As for the graphics card it will work for now, might want to upgrade after Christmas when all the prices go down. even now the best graphics card you can find it tops 250$ if you look in the right places.
also the new ram is coming out after christmas meaning ram will be super cheap so you could pick up some more when that happens.
in all after chistmas you could spend
100$ on a top of line graphics card today in 4 months. 50$ bucks on ram to 4gb and this in 4 months 100$
but honestly you might only want to think about upgrading your CPU meaning upgrade your graphics card in say a year or 2.

Edited by: Sir Alan on 21/07/2008 12:58:53 This is the crux of the question,
My processor is actually ok - (4.7 rating on Vista, which isnt too bad i believe) (remember core duo makes the processor run at 3.2 not 1.6 as i posted on the orginal)
Its only my GFX card that lets me down....
Upgrading anything other than RAM is a no no as im on a laptop!
With my Core Duo, would i beneift from the better coding of the premium graphics? Don't get me wrong, i have no intention of have everything on full... i just wondered if eve would run better on premium?
Cheers

On the bright side, you can still upgrade from Premium TO Classic.
But one day they'll take that option away sadly. |

First of all the processor only runs at 1.6 GHz, however it is dual core so can offload things that are running in the background to the second core - which does increase the frame rates. This means that even though the core speed is the same as the minimum requirements it is actually massively better than the Pentium IV. Also the pipeline and instructions set intrinsic to the processor will make the calculations be completed faster - it is no longer adequate to compare clock speeds for these recommended specifications.
The only differences between the classic and premium are the graphics, this means there is no "better" coding for the engine, IMHO I would stay with classic as your graphics card will let you down. BTW its free to upgrade why dont you just download it and try, if its too slow then switch back to classic?
And as for the guy who states that a new RAM will be out after Xmas..... Do you have any idea what you are talking about?

Edited by: MenanceWhite on 21/07/2008 13:14:50 So let me get this straight:
1. It's a laptop you're playing EVE on. 2. You're planning to upgrade the hardware on the laptop.
Because of your video card I'm pretty sure that the premium mode client is going to be abit slower than your classic mode client.
Also, if you're planning to use your laptop at any places where you don't have acess to power supplies - do not upgrade the video card of your laptop. Doing so will only shorten the time at which your laptop can run on its battery, by alot - does'nt matter if its running on idle or not, it's still going to consume alot more power.
I made the mistake of buying an ASUS "gaming" laptop, hurf durf 50min battery time compared to ~3h battery life of apple macbook or whatever it's called.
/e: yeah more ram might speed up vista abit, otherwise it's useless. Laptop rams does'nt usually run at that impressive clock rates either ways. ---

He said he cant upgrade his graphics card.... the only way to do this would be to change the MXM module within the laptop chasis, first of all this could potentially kill his laptop (not to mention invalidate his warranty) and secondly they are stupidly expensive and generally the laptop wouldnt have enough cooling to cool a new chip down.
He said he could only update the amount of RAM in his laptop - and IMHO 2GB is enough unless you want to spend about ú100 to change to 4GB (Which does make Vista run faster..).

Ok, well i think ill stick with classic!
Anf for the record, I am definately not looking to upgrade my laptop! Only thing i might consider is putting more RAM in, but i'll wait for it to come down in price a little bit first!
Cheers for all the help people!

My laptop and power supply do not get seperated..
Without the power lead it last 30minutes MAX!
Its just useful to have a computer you can use anywhere in the house and also at work!
One day ill be able to afford myself a beast of a desktop to run EVE on!

pretty sure you wont, im running a quad and eve on high graphics just sucks 100% of a core per client open for me.
