Looking for opinions here. Wluld I be better off fininshing my missions fast and going up in mission lvl or salvaging and looting all my kills. MERLUNUS |

If you are new, you need time to train skills and understand mechanics of the game. So I would suggest that you not rush.
People who have been playing for 4 years without a break will tell you to move quickly into level 4 stuff, which they can handle with aplomb, but if you're not at their level, it will be much tougher for you (let's be honest).
Sit back, loot your kills, salvage your wrecks. Let your skills train. Let your flower blossom! There's no need to rush.

Maybe a bit of info about myself would have helped. I am a returning player. I have played for less than a year. I'm not at home so I don't have access to my character's info, but I'm flying a merlin (cormorant was too slow and not enough missile turrets) and just started my lvl 2 storyline missions. I am currently training towards flying a drake. MERLUNUS |

imho - salvaging is only really worth it when you face battleships. Thus - level 1, 2 and probably 3 does not bring you a lot of extra income. You may find good loot though. Try collecting it for a while and compare how much time you use and what doing another mission would have given you.

Ignore those saying you shouldn't salvage. Unless you have plenty of ISK already, salvaging will seriously help in getting the income you need to get decent ships, fittings, skillbooks, implants, etc.
Income/hour is higher doing both missions and salvaging them than doing the missions and not salvaging.
But since you'll need to get the salvaging skill anyway, eventually, why not test it for yourself? Fit a cormorant with 4 tractor beams, 4 salvagers and and afterburner, and bring it in to salvage after every mission. See what you make, and then decide for yourself whether it's worth it.

Edited by: Oweim on 23/07/2008 01:04:01 I'm doing Level 2, some 1 still (for standing), as well as ratting while mining. I have over 13mill isk of salvage in my hanger (Trit bars, logic boards, armor plates, etc) from about the last 7 days so imo salvage is worth it. I do believe though, when compared to what level 4 will provide this is pure chump change, but i'll take anything I can get right now.
BTW, will salvage for level IV missions , reasonably fee :D

Salvaging the right factions is far more profitable than what lvl 1 or lvl 2 missions pay. Lvl 3s and lvl 4s you're at times better off not salvaging, but it's still worth it unless you're insanely good at running missions quickly.

I usually run three or four missions straight through, bookmark the sites and then come back to salvage. Seems quicker then salvaging after each mission. It's definitely worth it though

If you don't salvage you will waste a significant portion of the potential mission income.
I reprocess all the tec1 items I collect which get converted into the minerals you can use to build new far more valuable items like ships & ammo.
Salvaging will also yield significant amounts of salvage used in the building of rigs & you can make a very healthy profit selling these. You can top up the required modules from the market-so if you have 80 armor plates in stock it is worth buying the extra to build that auxillary nano pump & selling it for 15 million.
This has worked vey well for me & have used this strategy to buy every single available Gallente battleship & afford not to worry about loosing them. What is nice about Eve is nearly everything can be traded for the time you invest so go for it & have fun.

It's a grid/graph/whatever. On the x coordinate you have mission running speed vs looting/salvaging speed (ratio of time spent doing it). On the y coordinate you have mission level. Lower level missions or higher mission-running speed -> you're better off speed-running them. Higher level missions or higher loot/salvage speed -> you're better off looting and salvaging everything. Shades of grey exist in-between, depending on luck and mission type distribution.

Salvage as you go, and you minimize the threat of Ninja Salvagers invading your Mission to do it for you. As my chosen profession, if I come into an active Mission and the Mission Runner is already tractoring wrecks to salvage them, I'm usually apt to move on to the next Mission Runner.
Now, if they're rude in local, then they're fair game, and I'll salvage them out of their tractor beams. Politeness works as well.

Especially when you're starting out, salvaging brings in a large proportion of your ISK. If possible, I recommend getting a ship that you can salvage with while you're actually doing the mission, ala using drones to do the killing while you're tractoring and salvaging.

That strategy is most of the time too slow. KIil everything first, bookmark then get a dedicated salvager to mop up. It is cleaner, faster & more productive.

What do you need to build the rigs from the salvage?

Some cheap blueprints (people often sell them already fully researched) and production efficiency 5. Not quite 2 weeks training and a bit of investment in blueprints, and you can be pumping out rigs.

Edited by: Letrange on 24/07/2008 16:51:02 Rule of thumb: If you're killing angels or sansha, always salvage, you'll get way more isk that way since alloyed trit bars and melties are worth so much. The other stuff it depends: If you generically need salvage for your rigs then salvage all missions, if you don't only salvage angel and/or sansha missions.
