I justed wanted to know how you guys are dealing with this or what yer thinking bout it. It's just that, I'm thinking: we have warp to 0 \o/ which is nice and all, but whats the point? It's seems like its just warp to 15km with a couple less mouse clicks? I mean i'm in my slick ceptor and warp to the gate at zero and try to jump but gotta wait 30secs and watch while I'm ripped up (unless I'm able to run or speed tank). If hostiles want to prevent me from jumping there _are_ game mechanics for that - bubbles, dictors, hics. But some random element out of anyones control doesn't really appeal to me in any way. I mean I suppose the short answer is "suck it up, if you can't afford to lose a ship, don't warp anywhere in the system where a session change might occur" ? Meh, it just sounds lame to me.
I took a quick look - let me know if this has already been discussed to death somewhere else.
Tell me what you think -session changes: are you kewl with them, are you uneffected by them?

They're a necessary evil. Yeah, they make things take longer and they can cause you to lose a ship, but they also synchronize the client and server with each other. Without them, desyncs would happen almost constantly - the timer is to make sure that the client and the server are looking at the same data.
It would be nice if there was some way to initiate a session change while in space to correct desync, but it would have to be done in a way that it couldn't cause lag (imagine an enemy FC telling all his members to initiate a session change when a hostile fleet jumps in). I'm not sure it'd be possible. ---------------- Play EVE: Downtime Madness v0.83 (Updated 7/3) |

I remember getting stuck constantly jumping though gates or docking/undocking or doing anything were we now have a session change, so while I wish we didn't have them, I would rather keep them then go back to the old days.
Anyway with the timer now visible and the fact that you are cloaked after jumping long enough to see the timer out it doesn't seem like much of a problem.

Well, if a session change is indeed a necessary evil then at least the player should have a clear indication of what they are in for. The GENERAL SETTINGS/SHOW SESSION-CHANGE TIMER is appreciated but imho is displayed much to small (Upper left have corner of screen in space) to be of practical value.

Agreed. All Session Change/Aggro timers should have a small icon at the top of the screen that visually displays how long until the timer expires. Players losing ships because they aren't aware of them (as the documentation on them is very slim) is dumb. ---------------- Play EVE: Downtime Madness v0.83 (Updated 7/3) |
