So... they are cheap, quick transporters?
Like if I had a ship a long ways away, I would use this for a faster, safer passage.
Safer because when it explodes, I'm in a pod, rather than I just die cuz I am in a pod, right?
Also can I fit this puppy out to fight? Not an effective fighter, but it can at least shoot back?

Yep, yep, yep, nope.
They're very nimble, faster than a pod, and a little bit of a buffer around your pod.
But they don't have any slots to fit anything.

keep in mind pods warp at 3 AU/S, whereas shuttles are 6 AU/S. Makes little difference in small systems, but in systems with 100+ AU from gate to gate, you'll appreciate it.

If you're autopiloting, the shuttles go 500-625m/s depending on your Navigation skill, so they close that last 15km quicker than a pod as well.
You can fly all 4 racial shuttles, no special skills required, so if the Minmatar shuttles are expensive at the station where you happen to be, you might find a cheap Gallente one instead.

Make sure to use a shuttle to move all your blueprints, as you can fit as many as you want to in their hold, as blueprints take up no room. Also make sure you engage your autopilot and go watch The Simpsons or something while you are moving those blueprints.

I hate to say it, but the amarr magnate makes a very nice frigate for hauling items.
You can slap a pair of cargo expander IIs in and get more cargo than a probe at mini frigates V
Also depends on the frigates, I've done cargo runs using a Virgil (tricked out for speed and more speed)
You can tweak a frigate or cruiser to hold lots of cargo (battle cruiser if you want a mega tank - the cane is sweet for this with expander IIs in the lows and a pure buffer shield tank) and not draw as much attention as the industrials and shuttles.

Only because they forgot to include the advice about advertising your route so your friends can guard the gates for you, in case there are NPCs there who might aggro you as you fly through.
