Edited by: Industrial Hauler on 22/07/2008 18:34:24 Now im just gunna get straight to the point as i know caldari cruisers dont really surve a great purpose at pvp. However I was thinking of buying up a good support ship that would be easily replaced that can prove quite handy in roaming gangs. Now i was mainly thinking specifically of the caracal or the blackbird because of the caracals large dps(for a cruiser) and the blackbirds ewar expertise, i was just wondering if someone could give me a definate answer to which one of these would be more useful in a gang and if someone could give me a quick or a good pvp setup. Thanks

Don't have EFT at hand so I can't help you with a setup.

Caracal can be set up for long range fire support (which is of dubious usefulness in the situation described), close range fire support (which is a quick way to die given it's flimsyness) or anti frigate support by loading up on Assaults and precison light missiles (the best bet as far as I'm concerned). Keep in mind with a caracal you'll struggle to actually put a reasonable tank on there so look to alternative means of staying alive (Ewar, Speed is somewhat possible and so on).
Blackbirds are the best bet for support as far as I'm concerned because they're always welcome in any gang. Problem is they are built out of dreams and faeries and their etherial nature means they tend to fair poorly under fire. Take heart though - they are one of the cheapest cruisers in the game so you can easily afford to lose LOTS of the things. Just grow comfortable with the fact that if your entire gang makes it back and only loses one ship - you'll be the ship that exploded.

well if blackbirds arnt ones to take much of a pounding then wouldnt it be worth going all in with neuts and nos's on the highs pure ewar in the mids and maybe some power diognostics in the lows or something to that effect.

caracal? large dps?
The blackbird is pretty much the ultimate gang cruiser. There's really only one fit for it.
High's:whatever. Smartbombs, assault missile launchers, whatever you lying around. Mids: Maybe a speed mod or sensor booster, otherwise cram as many racials as you can on it. Lows: One SDA, maybe a 1600 plate, otherwise just get another sda on there.
A blaster moa won't be so great at support, but it works as a good tackler, with a decent tank/gank going.

Like Min said
Highs 3x Heavy Launchers/Assault Launchers/Smartbombs (your preference)
Mids 1x Sensor Booster II, 5x Jammers (mix and match what racials or multispecs you want, typical loadouts are either 5x Multispec or 1 of each racial + 1 multispec)
Lows either 2x Signal Dispersion Amps or 1x Signal Dispersion amp and an Armor Plate
About the best jamming performance you can get out of the little Blackdevil. This ship is a very useful force-multiplier for your side. --

I found the Caracal to be an effective medium-range frigate killer.
[High] x5 Assault Launcher
[Med] x2 Large Shield Extender x1 Web x1 Target Painter/Disruptor (Depends on if you're going solo or in a fleet) x1 10m MWD
[Low] x2 Ballistic Control Units.
700 Volley (Usually kills any t1 frigate in 2 volleys) About 2k speed. and Close to 7k shields.
I've also found that this ship is a very fast warper, so you'll have a very easy time getting past low-sec gatecamps. _

Raymond no offence intended but thats more of a solo pvp fitout and to be fair a cruisers never gunna be that adept at solo pirating or pvp and besides its not what the blackbirds designed for.

He's using a caracal, not a blackbird. And LOL at cruisers not decent at solo pirating. ________

Edited by: Industrial Hauler on 23/07/2008 10:34:25 hey theres not much chance of a cruiser however well fitted it is to be taking out anything larger than frigate class vessels so thats a very neice market for pirating but i see how that setup for a caracal would work well in a gang.

Only real choices are Caracal or Blackbird as you stated.
Caracal is fairly useless, only really good for additional DPS. You don't have to worry so much about range with it so it is kind of nice in that regard but overall I don't think the Caracal is that great. This ship does not have large DPS, in fact it has crap DPS, a crap slot layout. People seem to like to fit assault launchers and leave them in a can behind then they get popped, either way it's a stepping stone to a Drake I guess.
Blackbird would be more useful since it's just a watered down Falcon, least you can jam stuff, which any gang appreciates.. can't fly it solo, make friends quick or train a new races ships. Also you will be a primary target in a Blackbird, get good at jamming.. get good fast.. =P
P.S. +1 lowslot for Caracal thnx. ------ I'll make a sig later. |

now i may have come across a little worse than i actually am. i've only asked for these setups because my alliance is constantly being attacked and we loose far too many ships because of lack of ecm and such. Now i cant fly any logistics ships or EAF's but i will eventually train up for it, this is because i mainly trained for dps and shield tanking and i have many dps dealing big ships with great shield tanks which is what i specialised in.
However because of the recent need for ecm's and lock downs i thought it necessary to bring out a blackbird as it is the best tech 1 logistics ship i know of.
