In Iceland, ToRfI fRaNz (or whatever his name was) gave a short presentation on CCP's progress with ambulation, and I think mentioned that they were thinking of things that people would be able to do while in stations.
What I propose is an idea for this, and it involves basically stealing a feature from Lord of the Rings Online wholesale. LOTRO allows player avatars to buy musical instruments and use number keys to play tunes and things. For most people, you can pump out a song about as intricate as you could using the Ocarina in TLOZ:OOT, but there are ways to upload song midis into it so you can get it to play pretty much any song automatically.
In LOTRO, you can use a 3rd part javascript program to turn a midi file into a .abc file, and then you put that in the My Games/LOTRO/music folder. In game, you whip out your guitar, clarinet, bagpipes, whatever, then you type "/music" and then "/play [song]". Then the game will start playing whatever you converted from a midi.
So if CCP is looking for something cool to put into ambulation, do this. LOTRO isn't the kind of game I like (and for the record, I uninstalled it before the trial was over) but when I heard about the music playing bit it was enough to get me to try it out. Think about how many people would be willing to give EVE a try if they were enticed by the promise of being able to play Hava Nagila on electric guitar or Scatman on a Sousaphone, IN EVE?

Here is a video of this in action as a demonstration. Pay no mind that it's a bunch of elves and hobbits and shit.

This idea passed with a unanimous grand slam, 8-0.

Yes thanks for ignoring the biggest supported thread and pushing this one through.

Anybody who doesn't see the genius of this idea clearly lacks the imagination to realize it's potential. These same people probably would have poo-pooed steamboats, trains, and telephones were they alive centuries ago. |

Surprise surprise, it made it on the agenda!
Yet, they shelved discussion on the scrambler/web changes to 'some point in the future when it's too late to do squat' after 25 minutes of mostly meaningless discussion.
I puked a little in my mouth when I read the minutes.

No, I think the idea is more like the 'privacy shield for urinating in your car' like the Japanese have. Nice way to waste valuable CSM time with utterly trivial exercises in 'lets show how pathetic the system safequards are when I can introduce (AND GET PASSED) ideas that should never have made it past first readiing'.
Obviously the CSM 'Issue' system needs additional ways to block other monumentally idiotic ideas in the future.
Thanks for palpably pointing that out.
edit: any more cute little graphics you'd like to add so you don't need to have an argument?

Exactly.
What is the point of bringing up and issue if you already know it's a low-priority issue? I personally think that is the case here.
Because it's cool and there's no way to tell if CCP would implement something like this on their own, or if they'd notice it without the CSM. |
