Got EVE running on the latest Kubuntu (KDE3.5), 4 clients at once, I'm actually quite happy :)
There were some texture problems the first time I logged in, but they went away later on (except a completely white stargate now and then). I expect the NVVar setting to be of influence there, but it's nothing fatal.
What really annoys me though is that I can't get the ingame browser to work. I tried several times: installed firefox3 before and after installing EVE, nothing helps. I know that I had it working last week though before I had to reinstall my linux because of a borked Compiz installation.
I tried googling the subject for Cedega and wine community forums, and I scavenged the Eve forum as well, but I find only very outdated information about this problem. Can someone point me to a howto about this subject?
Thanks

Edited by: Aidia Nestor on 26/07/2008 19:05:20 Well, you might want to explain some more to what is happening instead of "it's not working - help" ;)
So.. any errors? does it load? does the little loading-icon in the IGB window just keep rolling? IGB site trust issues?
The browser you're running in your system doesn't effect the IGB.

I just have to mention that I have the same problem.
It comes up with "site error" or something of that nature. How generic is THAT?

Edited by: Sir HyperChrist on 03/08/2008 17:38:24 Edited by: Sir HyperChrist on 03/08/2008 17:36:00 Well, when I see the eve news, both in game and at the login screen, it just says in large capital characters "URL Error". It does this with any url I enter. The loading icon turns a single time before it stops at this conclusion.
The browser you are using in linux must have at least some influence: The cedega settings have an option to specifically use mozilla as "IE control".

No, it doesn't.
The Mozilla Control you are referring to allows programs that use embedded HTML to be correctly displayed. This is the case, for example, in some of the dialogs shown when installing a new patch. However, this control gets installed within the emulation layer of Cedega, and thus doesn't interact in any way with the browser you are using on Linux.
Now I'm not sure if the IGB is based upon a propietary implementation or uses the IE Control, but this will always be that installed along with Cedega in the later case. You cannot change it to use Firefox, Konqueror or any other browser you may have installed.

Still, the problem remains. I have no ingame browser, so no security or exploit warnings.
I have seen the IGB working when I first tried installing linux/eve. But the second time I tried a fresh linux install, I did nothing different relevant to EVE, the IGB doesn't work. Eve can connect to the net, I can log in :), and with the IGB being a ccp implementation (thanks for the comments), then the fault must lie with CCP as well. Should I file a bugreport?

AFAIK IGB doesn't use any outside browser at all. It's CCPs own HTML engine (that's why it was so far behind HTML in early EVE days). So FF version should not matter at all.
Never had problems with the IGB (I'm using wine 1.x instead of official Eve client though).
You might want to check if it's a problem with your firewall or proxy. |

This problem affects me as well. Same message: "URL ERROR", both on logon screen and in-game.
I'm running the latest Ubuntu (gnome).

Edited by: Darkeen on 28/08/2008 04:29:41 Hi,
Firstly look at the options screen (press ESC?). There is an option (I think its there - Ive seen it somewhere - sorry for being so vague...) to only use ingame browser or use OS browser or some such.
Use only the ingame browser.
Next restart the game. Yeah, you shouldnt have to, but you are troubleshooting here... IN game, press the browser button and then wait. Go have a coffee, or go mine 10 ICE rocks - whichever is longer (!).. When the browser screen finally starts, manually go to a text only website (so it helps to have a test site that you already know about - dont go to google or anywhere that has graphics - we want to test the BASIC functionality first!
Then try going to google and see if it loads. Then try whatever else you want...
PS: I also get the white stargates issue! Glad to see I'm not alone! It occurs a lot less since Empyraen Age, but it comes occassionally, but only at certain gates.... not all. Regards,

Has any one found a fix for the URL:ERROR in the IGB. I'm having no luck and I can't find any options for the browser in the game setting as mentioned above, nor in the IGB setting it self. I'm running the "Linux Client" on Ubuntu 64.

I have the same problem URL Error at news on log-in, and ingame. Im using windows home edition but im behind a proxy, i enterd a few different eve related address to the proxy list but still no joy. If CCP would take a look at this issue and add it to ther knowledge base it would help alot of people im sure. |

Not using linux much anymore, but I saw somewhere else on the forums that it had to do with the 64-bit distro differences. Check the rest of the forum for more info.

It is a 64 bit issue. I installed Firefox 32 bit and the news showed up on next Eve login. The IGB is working too. Here is a link to the "how to" for loading Firefox 32 bit onto Ubuntu 64 bit.
