Note: speed nerf debaters go elsewhere.
I'm curious if CCP has stated anywhere that they want a counter to the blob. Have they suggested that there already exists a counter to the blob?

Right now there isn't any real counter to Blobbing... except for the undeniable appearance of lag with large blobs.
The reason people blob is because its the easiest way to destroy an enemy. Thirty ships shooting at one ship kills the one ship pretty fast. The only way people can be discouraged from blobbing is to make it more difficult for thirty ships to gang up on one. Maybe a mechanic can be added to create a sort of cap on the number of ships that can lock an enemy vessel at once. Maybe a mechanic derived from the signature radius whereas the larger the sig radius the more ships can lock on a target.
At least that would stop the primary-athon we currently get now.

people blob because they are ***** and have less chance to get primaried. its the age old safety in numbers thing. [/url] |

Friendly fire friendly fire friendly fire. Right now ships just shoot through solid objects at their target. Take that away and suddenly a 50 man group becomes potentially dangerous to itself too.

Thats true too... that if you're in a blob you're less likely to be primaried. Especially if you fly a cruiser or frigate. If you made it so not everyone in the blob could shoot at the primary, maybe some of that safety in numbers would disappear.

Actually, Nano ships were a pretty good counter to a blob...note the were.

they were not a counter to the blob, but a way of avoidance

And lag increases by crazy ammounts due to a ton of extra calculations needed to determine line of fire and collision detection with ships which may potentially be in that line.
Sadly technical solutions such as this are very hard to implement. The cause of blobbing is the players themselves not being willing to fight on even terms so they bring as many friends as possible. Not sure how you change that mentality though.
