Edited by: Ivalde Svartalf on 26/07/2008 09:56:30 Hi Icelandic players
Just landed on Iceland for a couple of days vacation with my family. Have planned to do some of the touristic stuff like visiting the Geysir and Gullfoss, bathing in the Blue Lagoon and take a boat trip watching some whales. Is there anything else that is a MUST when you are on Iceland? We will rent a car but are planning to stay in the south area.
Also, we will celebrate the wifes birthday and was recommended the Orange restaurant as a good one. Would you agree?
Any input is welcome
Cheers! /Ivalde

Pick up a copy of The Reykjavik grapevine when you get here. It's free and has up to date events listings for everything from art exhibitions to concerts.
You should also go and see ¦ingvellir, the place where the Icelandic parliament was established and where the North American and European tectonic plates move apart. It's quite beautiful, with a great national park to wander around in.

As for Orange...holy St. Olga of the Overdraft but that place serves expensive food. But it's worth experiencing, especially if you're going to be up here in Iceland and have an occasion to celebrate. However be aware that it's a 'modern food' establishment that stays true to the rule that the size of your portion is inversely proportional to the price you are paying for it.
Their ****tails are meant to be really good though, and at 500 isk for a shot there's plenty of choices to help you deal with the cost of the food.

Landmannalaugr!
But then again you're just here for a few days and that's a bit too far off from the capital. You could have time to go to Blue lagoon though, it's not far.
Enjoy!

While visiting Iceland is a great thing to do with many rewarding sites to see, visiting the CCP office will be an exercise in disappointment. We do not offer tours of the building, so please don't try. And the building itself is pretty bland looking from the outside.

Unless you go there with two large kegs of beer. They will let you run the office for one day.

Thanks guy¦s, for good advice.
We went for Whispers advice on ¦ingvellir this first day (needed to copy the name from his post since my keyboard does not have "th"=¦ kind of letter). We actually skipped all the day tour crap and rented a car instead. Went all the way to Gullfoss via ¦ingvellir. Really nice and impressive day!
Tomorrow we will visit what Verlyn suggested, the Blue Lagoon. It seems like something you have to do being here. But first we will go horseriding. No kidding, but the last time I tried the Icelandic way of riding (called t÷lt I beleive), I had my ass injured for 3 days....
For the Orange restaurant, we picked another one called the Argentina instead. Well, I said "St Olga" here as well. Food can really be expensive on Iceland. It was good no dubt, but prices knocks you out. The restaurant Vegam=t on our first night was more my style, good beer and decent food in friendly atmosphere.
Visiting CCP? Well, I will go there to have a look, but not expecting the red carpet. Do understand that the guy¦s needs to work. But I will place myself on the stairs, hook up the laptop to a random wireless and.... jump in from Torrinos and kill the first red thing in my overview and screem in local "I did this from CCP HQ"! Then I will paintbrush on the side of the office building "You¦ve been Interdicted" ;-)
Cheers!

Well for starters there are no fish in the tank yet. It's been filled and there's sand and coral in it, but before the fish are added the water needs to be salted and a lengthy cycling process needs to complete. I'm also doubtful whether we will be using carnivorous fish, even though several people have called for piranha.

Just tell them Piranha would not like it, especially since they are fresh water fish Maybe a couple of Barracuda would do instead. -- There's a simple difference between kinky and perverted. Kinky is using a feather to get her in the mood. Perverted is using the whole chicken. |

That is an awesome fish tank!
A model of the Ferox would be perfect as decoration, since that ship looks like an Angler (Lophius piscatorius) it will blend in fine ;-)
But the best idea would be to have some Crayfish. Then you can fish them up in August and have a Crayfish Party at the office. That is a Swedish/Finnish tradition I think Icelandic people would be able to take to heart. It does include eating, drinking akavfti and beer in large amounts, accompanied with singing (well, making loud noise together).
By the way, I survived the horseriding. But the horse gave me the evil eye since the horse owner told me that I could not give him (the horse) the promised beer afterwards.... But it was really beautiful to ride in the Icelandic countryside.

love the place, went for the summer and returned back to the uk 7 years later....and wish I hadn't. EG ELSKA ISLAND!!
What do too when in Iceland, the above pretty much covers it, but try and do non tourist things, instead of going through the tunnel inbetween reykjavik and akranes go round the fjord and be amazed at the beauty. I also recommand Kirkjubaejarklaustur which has to be my favouite place in the world, and would go back to live there in a heartbeat!! There is so much too see and do, and like someone said pick up a copy of the rekjavik grapevine who i used to write for, as it has so much infomation packed in it's free pages, you can pick one up almost anywhere for instance I know that hresso used to stock them...but it's been 2 years since i left iceland.
