Way back when there was talk of being able to play EvE on some GSM phones. This was further mentioned in E-ON Issue #002 on page 9. Is this something that is going to become reality or was it dropped like many other great ideas?

More like mobile devices haven't come nearly close enough to being able to run a full-fledged client, add to that major network speed, bandwidth and cost issues. Finally, the handful of people who would actually use it and constantly demand those gimmicks aren't enough to justify the development cost.
If we ended up getting a way to check our skill training and queue up another on the go, check on market prices, etc.. Meh. __________________________________________________

Edited by: Rimsa Orion on 26/07/2008 23:47:22 The mobile EvE would be just for training skills, Markets buying and selling and things like that. There was no plan to go out in a 3d environment on your phone. You would be limited to just the in station functions.
Thats what they were planning anyway.

I would be delighted if I could change my skills from my phone whilst at uni/out doing things.
Bandwidth wouldn't matter with something like that, you could do it using your regular phone internet.
Better yet CCP could implement a system whereby you can link your phone to your account, and use a direct url to access your skillsheet on this site from your phone, allowing 2x context dependant options:
- Train Skill to the next level (for a no skill in training situation)
or
- Stop training current skill and start training this one (if you'd like to change)
This wouldn't even need a client, just a new module developed for the account page (to link your phone and generate a skill changing url for you to see your basic character sheet without having to log into the site (skills currently trained and their levels)). Even if phones can't be linked in the way I'm thinking of we could still log into a generated personal skill url with our account info and change skills via phone internet. Can't imagine it being that hard? Or am I completed missing something (quite likely tbh ).

I think I could easily live without EVE mobile if we JUST had a 1 skill skill-queue! -------------------- [Signature]

Take a look at this little video. It's not EVE, but a skill planner.
As for an EVE client per se, take a look at this post about EVE Mobile Edition which I wrote about way back in June of last year. It sums up a a few good links on the subject also.
I still have my fingers crossed, but they're starting to get numbed.
