got that res available on both tq and chaos, which video card and drivers do you use?
I really don't like thinking how many missions I've done over time, or how long they've taken on average. |

I have this problem too, but only when I use a TFT panel monitor. Aspect restrictions are applied to windowed mode that should only apply in full screen.
Can this be fixed please?

Edited by: Mitram on 28/05/2004 16:22:57 There is a trick.
Go into the graphic settings, switch to full screen, select your resolution you want (e.g. 1300x...), switch back to windowed mode and now you have it.
There are some resolution not available under "windowed mode" while they are available under "full screen mode". I don't see a reason for it. I am running my desktop at 1600x1200 so the 1300x... is best for me.
Doing the above and I get it in windowed mode.
And yes, I am using a TFT too.

I related this problem as well :
http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=72962
for me it was a system problem. In hardware settings, advanced, display adapter, list all resolutions, many resolution were not there. So it was not surprising Eve didn't override available resolutions. Lastest or older drivers downloaded from nvidia never fixed it, I was still with few resolutions available.
Until I've used a "windows update" I chose to make it download & install detonators and it worked, all resolutions were back. and Eve was able to run in any resolution I used to. I'm now running with 52.16 detonators. Pod me before I choose to upgrade them !
I cba to study why installing official nvidia drivers make me lose resolutions the .inf files seem to have them all listed for my adapter ... any tips welcome

I'm not sure I follow the resolution suggested by the previous poster. I'm getting the same issue now, on the latest patch. Can someone please "translate" what the fix is? Or is there a CCP explanation of this issue?
Thanks!

Well, this PowerStrip application seems to be the brute force way to make it work. I'm not sure if there's a more elegant solution, though.

Hit the little nvidia settings widget in your system tray, or go to the nvidia control panel. Under 'display' there should be 'Manage custom resolutions'.
Add '1280 x 960', test to freak out your monitor, and restart Eve. It should now be available as a windowing resolution.

We read the list of available resolutions from Windows, which obtains them from your graphics card/driver.

good tip with the windows settings, i checked it and saw that the last driver update (which was btw the day trinity released) my "PnP Monitor" has changed to "Generic non-PnP", so i only had 2 default resolutions

Please let us use custom resolutions instead. I would much rather use an Eve resolution that doesnt obscure my task bar (or worse, get obscured by it).

You can add them via your display properties.

There is no reason why any reasonable resolution shouldn't be available in window mode. Sure, for fullscreen it makes sense to read from the OS. For window mode.. Let us type in a custom resolution.

Are you sure that you don't apply a additional filtering?
My Laptop has the resolution 1280x960 (displayed in various panels) - but EVE not.

The minimum resolution we include is 1024 x 768. Also, in windowed mode the refresh rate of the resolution must match the refresh rate of the device.

There is a refresh rate limitation in windowed mode...?
Odd. Maybe DirectX is that much different from what OpenGL allows, but normally you should be able to create windows from 1x1 to as large as the current display resolution is, without any limitations.
Actually, it would be nice if you could just grab the border of a windowed EVE and drag it to any size you like.
Ciao, Aronis!

The resolution detection for windowed mode doesn't seem to work on multi-monitor setups:
My primary is a 24" widescreen and my secondary is a 19" 4:3.
If I select the widescreen monitor in the Display Properties -> Settings tab then select Advanced -> Adaptor -> List All Modes it does not list 1280*960 as an available mode, BUT if I select the 4:3 first and then List All Modes it does show 1280*960 ...
However the EVE client only lets me pick resolutions from the primary monitor - which is fair enough for fullscreen but not when I'm running it windowed. Why can't windowed mode offer resolutions from both monitors? Or always offer the 1280*960 option? Why does windowed mode even care what the HAL says about available fullscreen modes anyway?

The windowed mode is screwed anyway.
You have to rely on 3rd party applications to have your EVE window moved so that it's client area fills the screen when window size = screen size.
It is 5 lines of C code to adjust this inside the application. But oh wait you are using Python, must be extremely complicated then, eh?
Or at least give us the option of using a borderless window when you don't want to auto-move a window (of the same size as the screen!) to fit within the display area.
Please!

Why would you require refresh to match the device??
When you initialize D3DPRESENT_PARAMETERS structure you should specify refresh as 0 when working in windowed mode (DX SDK clearly states that).
Also I'm confident that there is a lot of filtering happening as in eve I'm given 5 resolutions to choose. Compared to modes given in device enumeration it's at most very limited list.
To be exact EVE gives me the following modes: 1280x1024 1024x768 1152x864 1280x960 1600x1200
DX based enumeration gives following modes: 640x480 720x480 720x576 800x600 848x480 960x600
1024x768 1152x864 1280x720 1280x768 1280x800 1280x960 1280x1024 1360x768 1600x1200
The first block of modes is too low to meet the criteria you have specified, but the second block of them is very much fitting in to required being bigger than 1024x768.
Why those are not showing up in eve?
Also as was stated before eve has BIG problems when enumerating secondary display - no problems exist basing on DirectX functions and it enumerates nicely.
Maybe there is some weird freaky filter which worked fine for older version of drivers but now fails to work and filters out valid modes?

Not that I've looked into it much, but both my TQ clients (classic) work a-okay in windowed using 1280x1024 (I think). What's annoing is that they inherit each others settings, so I can't have one at 1024 and the other at 1600 or something. Next time I fire them up, they get whatever settings the last client I shut down had, both audio & video.
However my SiSi clients (prem and classic) refuse to give any other resolution but 1920*1200, which is the monitor native res, in either fullscreen or windowed mode. Talk about oddities.

I just queried my graphics driver about the available resolution for directx windows. Here's the result:
1x1 1x2 2x1 2x2 1x3 2x3 3x1 3x2 3x3 1x4 2x4 3x4 4x4 4x1 4x2 4x3 1x5 2x5 3x5 4x5 5x5 5x1 5x2 ... 3360x1048 3360x1049 3360x1050

For those who don't know it yet, http://eve.j-e-b.net/evemover makes EVEs borderless and moves them to the upper left corner of a selectable monitor. Ideal for running multiple EVEs on multiple monitors, even works if you set your EVEs to sizes smaller than the monitor.
