(Disclaimer) I've made searched and scoured this forum and API-documentations and I do not seem to find an answer.
As I was scrolling through my Market Transaction logs I encountered an buy-transaction where I had bought 1500 missiles for 16.49 ISK apiece. The value in the "Credit" column showed -24734,85 ISK. For the arithmetically inhibited, I must tell you that the sum should have been -24735.00 ISK.
tl;dr: I had payed 0.15 ISK too little (according to item price)!
Could it be that the seller somehow entered 16.4899 ISK on item price and that it was rounded off for the item price in all the windows but since I bought 1500 items, it would influence the sum anyway?

Quite possible, but that is not the seller's "fault". I've had it happen to me often enough while selling something, I enter a price of something and 99 cents, and EVE then makes that something and 98.99 cents.
Apparently that does actually matter for large amounts. ________ Invention profit calculator |

Very interesting. Could this be caused by anything than a somewhat serious bug in the system?

Peter Gibbons plays EVE, he's stealing your pennies.
On a serious note though, I have noticed some odd market transactions such as this myself. I wouldn't exactly complain about underpaying though. -------------------------------------------------- Everyone is entitled to my opinion. |

It is known and expected behavior for the system to use 4 decimal places internally for ISK ammounts.
Normally this is only an issue when Broker Fees and Sales Taxes are calculated.
It is odd that you would see a rounding issue when purchasing missiles, but I would not worry about it.

I've played with the 4 decimals once when trying to see if I could use it to my advantage while trading. When you put up a buy order, you can actually use all 4 decimals. My goal was to see if I could dictate where my order fell in the list. If someone had a buy order up for 50.00 then I put one up for 50.0049. Since my order was technically higher it should appear at the top of the list when sorting by price, but still appear as 50.00 since the .49 gets rounded down. After a couple hours I decided that half-isk's weren't worth worrying about and went back to the 0.01 game. Someone with more patience than me might figure something out though. |
