I'm using the CCP client for Debian.Since last week (or the week before) my client is running ~1fps when it used to run fine at ~60fps before that.
My machine has an NVidia 9600 GT with 512mb RAM with NVidia driver 171.05 Core2 Duo @ 2.33ghz 2gb RAM
...so ~1fps is a bit... strange.
I've tried running Eve with wine with no luck at all. I have also reinstalled a few times and tried turning the settings down. No matter what I do, it's so slow the chat is about 10-20 letter behind. This is clearly unplayable. Does anybody have any ideas?
One thing I've noticed is that it looks a *lot* better now, so there might be some settings that got turned on with a patch (that patch was the last thing i did to it).
Btw, I'm new to Eve so I'm not familiar with all the settings and stuff.
Thanks in advance Rob

Maybe you could clear the cache?
Is this just an eve issue, or is it possible there is something wrong with your comp setup? It would be a good idea to test another 3d program to confirm either way.

You could try running glxgears from a terminal and also check what drivers you're running with: glxinfo | grep server (they should report "NVIDIA Corporation")

Quote: rob@debian:~$ glxgears 68398 frames in 5.0 seconds = 13679.545 FPS 79536 frames in 5.0 seconds = 15907.117 FPS 80270 frames in 5.0 seconds = 16053.975 FPS 79875 frames in 5.0 seconds = 15974.923 FPS
rob@debian:~$ glxinfo | grep server server glx vendor string: NVIDIA Corporation server glx version string: 1.4 server glx extensions: rob@debian:~$
And I can run X-Plane at near max settings at probably 60fps.
Wouldn't deleting the .cedega folder and reinstalling delete the cache? Where do I check if premium content is enabled... it looks a lot better than before. I especially suspect HDR based on how the planet at the login screen looks.
Thanks again.

Check your processes, is any other process hogging resources that could explain the slowdown? Did you change any settings for the client graphics wise, resolution, color depth, etc?
Did you do a deep cache clearing as described in the knowledge base article? The ingame option supposedly does not clear everything?
Worst case scenario try reinstaling the client data or just reinstalling the client, it has resolved some strange issues I have had in the past.

I've already deleted ~/.cedega/
Does the installer put anything anywhere else (outside my home folder)?

saskuach, DONT delete the gfolder.
If you have a problem where the default settings do not work for you then deleting the foldr and reinstalling is just going to reset back to the (problematic) default settings.
Stat thwe game and at the login screen, press ESC. Go to the "Display and graphics" and select Graphics to Low There is an option "Clear Cache" that you should hit too. it wil force a restart of Eve.
That is what the others are refferring too.
I have the same issue with my mining alt - I used to get 30-40 fps and now I get 1-5 fps, but this occurs usually after an hour of gameplaying. I think thats the cache is still getting rather big and thus slowing down, or the video card (laptop) is egetting rather hot (theres a lot of hot air coming out of the laptop on that side....) I dont dare play with this character under those circumstances.... (How fast can u say "podkill"?) Regards,

Edited by: Glengrant on 28/08/2008 09:38:42 I bet you got the premium setting enabled.
Go to settings -> "Display & Graphics" and uncheck "Premium Grpahics Content Enabled". Let it restart your client.
That should fix your FPS.
BTW - the cache is almost never the problem in my experience.
I'm have moved my original Eve installation from computer to computer and from windows to Linux and I haven't manually (it gets cleared by the big patches) cleared my cache in ca 4 years. --- ISK BUYER = LOOSER EVE TV- Bring it back!

check your RAM to see if it's full. Use an app like gkrellm or a screenlet and play in windowed mode. I only have that when ram is full(I have no swap ehehe)

I use system monitor applet in the taskbar. You can add CPU, network, memory, HD activity, etc all to the taskbar as graphs....
It will give you a good visual as to how much memory you have. Regards,

No, RAM is not the problem. I have the very same issue. I just reinstalled the Linux client and had no improvement. Hence, it is not a cache problem whatsoever. Remarkably, the game runs smoothly with Premium Graphics under wine. So the problem seems to be located elsewhere. Can anyhone give me a hint here? |

ATM I'm only mining as the Fps is way too low to do anything else...
I'm waiting until after DT Tuesday and see if the Patches and fixes improve anything!

hmm there were some problems with more recent /etc/sysctl.conf . I have no idea if this could be it. I solved some problems following this: http://www.codeweavers.com/support/wiki/faq/ubuntu804_knownbugs/
