Though I may have decided on a long term setup/goal for both PVP and PVE, I seem to have grown a curiosity for command ships. The nighthawk looks super cool, but the Astarte and Eos looks pretty awesome as well.
So I would like to hear some comments on these two ships. What are they really good at doing? IS one better then the other? How do they fair in PVP?
And I think most importantly are they simply a waste of time and ISK because a Myrmidon can do everything they can?

The Eos was the king of pvp when it could use 5 heavy drones and had more turrets. Now its not worth thinking about.
Im not sure how the astarte is doing now, its not bad but I believe the general consensus was that it needs a serious agility boost because its about as agile as a battleship.
Though that said it would be criminal for ccp not to adjust this considering the ballancing going on at the moment.

they're all very nice ships, of course the command ships are much nicer than the mymidon (but the price tag gives that away :D)
the myrmidon is nice because it's much cheaper than the other 3, however, it can't get it's resists anywhere even close to the other ships so it's not going to survive as much damage as the others
imo, the eos is the way to go, especially if you enjoy the mymidon for it's drone capabilities because the Eos can use the same amount, but with your command ship skill trained it has a bigger drone bay than the myrmidon. Plus the Eos lets you run 3 warfare link modules at the same time if you find that you gang up a lot and that's something you could make use of ^^
if you're more into your hyrbids than your drones, fly an astarte. it gets much better bonuses to it's guns, and can still use 50 mbit/sec worth of drones
the nighthawk is going completely the opposite of the other 3 ships. can only use 5 light drones (unless you want less than 5 out at once) and uses missiles [which would mean that much skill training], unless you already have those skills to use it well. the nighthawk is very good but I'm gallente myself so I dont have much to say about it specifically
hope that helps :)

I have my Astarte set up like a mini Fleet Mega. Use 250mm rails, SB, tracking and damage mods. You will be king of the kill mails.

Eos = fail, myrm is better than the Eos IMO, eos has no drone bonus and less turrets and its warfare links that it gets a bonus to are the worst out the 4 races. It is below battlecruisers and below all other commands!

Edited by: Alex Harumichi on 29/07/2008 12:39:48 Currently, neither one is all that hot, sad to say.
Eos is mostly junk, due to the massively overdone nerf it received and the limited utility of inforwar gang links in general. It can be vaguely useful as support for an ECM gang, or as ECCM support, but... meh.
Astarte would be ok if not for the problematic state of blaster ships in general, nowadays. It's slow as a brick (and about to get slower still after nano patch), and with the range of medium blasters fights tend to mostly be over by the time it gets to range. On paper it has nice theoretical DPS. Too bad you almost never see that DPS in practice.
Added: yes, Astarte can work ok with rails.

Edited by: Furious Hawk on 29/07/2008 14:25:14 Command Ships are awesome and a valuable tool for any corporation.
I use the Vulture right now because I'm more of a defence/support kinda guy, where as the Nighthawk is intended for dealing out DPS.
I hope to be able to pilot every command ship in the game at some point. (That's alot of Cruiser V training haha). -------------------------------------------------- Everyone is entitled to my opinion. |

Allthough I fly my Eos every once and a while...Now it isn't worth thinking about any CS.
and tbh, I wished I didn't invest this much time in them. They screwed, molested and rap ed the Eos without having the dignity to take its pants down.
I bet they will nerf them again soon
