As i see it, each of the dual guns of medium and large fire singlular relevant ammo sizes, whats wrong with changing them to fire 2 of the smaller charge sizes, due to the larger number of rounds, the chances of a hit each volley would be higher, and would also be more realistic.

This has always confused me somewhat.... dual guns taking an ammo size larger then what they are claiming to be....

example for poster #2 since OP fails at explaining.
Amarr Duel Heavy Beam Laser Its not one Beam, its a pair of Medium Beams
So shouldn't it use 2 medium crystals?
the answer for the OP is NO, it would needlessly over overcomplicate things. __________________________________________________ |

I agree with OP. Quad Light Beams or whatever they are should use four small laser crystals, and so on et cetera.
What's the deal with like minmatar ammo where the same bullets fit into dual 180mm, 220mm, and 425mm turrets?

Motion to give anyone who wants this changed more sizes of ammo, but require them to play a mini-game where they manually load every round into the gun. This way they can fit two guns with different sized rounds and experience the thrill of shuffling around for the right shell. It's so realistic. It's even more fun if you're insane

Frome what i remember there are only 3 classes of gun small medium and large hence the ammo sizes the 250mm etc numbers represent barrel length not ammo size, i still cant explain dual guns though do they mean the barrels twice as long or has 2 medium barrels of the length the small gun?

250mm is 25 cm..... the sizes are ammo diameter, listed the same as in the real world.
The dual guns using the smaller ammo type is intresting idea, never really noticed this before.

In terms of turret vs. missile - balacing which is currently in developement regarding developer postings, it might be also nice to get the dual 425mm oder dual heavy pulse a lower signature resolution (maybe 250 instead of 400) to better be able to track smaller targets at the cost of dps

How would it overcomplicate things ?
It would be a nice change, though probably meaningless.

Thank you for your posts so far, in response to the amarr laser problem, as you only ever load one "charge" for a energy turret, isnt it safe to say that this is a general lense at the point of emittance on the energy turret, with the resultant filtered beams being sent down the numerous barrels. As a clarification, an example would be the dual 250mm railguns, currently use one L charge, but i feel would be more realistic and make the guns more useful were they to fire 2 M charges.

Edited by: Astria Tiphareth on 30/07/2008 13:43:29 For balance to remain vaguely sane, you'd need to change the ammo such that firing 2 of the smaller ammo, cargo space, reload times etc, remain the same. Provided that occurred, it would really just be a cosmetic change, and even one that improved immersion.
Edit: It does get just a bit difficult when the damage of the large ammo probably isn't twice that of the medium range one, and the range is going to be longer, and so firing two mediums would not produce the same effect as firing a dual medium today. ___ My views may not represent those of my corporation or alliance, which is why I never get invited to those diplomatic parties... |
