So I've tried out several different packages on Vista 64, Norton 360 got removed a while back as it was appearently hogging resources, I've been trying NOD32, which seems ok, however, it's trial has now expired so I'm gonna have to buy either an uodate or look at something else.
Anyone got any suggestions?? - NOD was best part of 40 quid to renew for 2 licenses so something a bit cheaper would go down well

I never touched an antivirus, because it just protects you from yourself.
However, I use Nod32 in order to protect my mom from herself. Works very well.

I don't mind my computer protecting me from me. I can always turn it off if it gets in teh way of things.
I mean, say I'm downloading a bit of music by torrent. Could be a virus, could not be a virus, no way of knowing. I can either choose to never download torrents again, or I can run a quick virus scan of the files. It's a no brainer, for me. ------

How about NOT using torrents at all? Most legal torrents, like the ones Nine Inch Nails offers, there should be no question about their safeness.

I use AVG Free 8.0 on my Vista machines - it comes in both 32 and 64 bit versions and gets good reviews everywhere I've seen it reviewed.
Norton is a serious resource hog and can actually leak memory if running while some games are running too.

My first though here was, Linux is the perfect anti-virus for Vista. Glad to see I wasn't the only one that thinks Vista is a virus.

Another vote for Avast...
Also AV is essential in this day and age regardless of how secure you think you are. You may be safe but if we get another Iloveyou or similar and you are in the address book of someone who gets it, you're screwed. Not to mention the hundreds of Trojans that masqerade as legitimate files. ------------- Insert Sig Here |

Well, I use the information from this site to decide on an antivirus. Right now I'm using NOD32 on the new machine (Vista 64 bits) and Avira AntiVir on the old one (XP). But you better decide for yourself.
More useful information: Checkmark Certification, ICSALabs, Virus Bulletin

Yup, thats what I said. I can either choose to never download torrents again, or I can run an on-demand virus scan whenever I need one. Its a simple choice.
Here's a hint: one of which involves me changing my behaviour in a considerable and negative fashion, and the other doesn't. You could call it protecting me from myself, or you could just see it as a handy tool for checking unknown file security... ------
