Whats the deal with the hyperion?
I'm considering buying this, and i'm just wondering what's good for, and how to rig/use it.
Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

It's a good mission runner... armor rep bonus and damage bonus. It also has a lot of grid. rigs: 2xCCC and 1xANP or 3xCCC
In PVP, you can use it as a blaster boat or a sniper. Dunno, I use a mega in PVP.

For PVP, it's role is better performed by a Mega. Mega's tracking bonus with Ions makes it's dps just as high in most cases. And it doesn't get much of a boost from it's rep bonus since it's missing a low slot on the Mega. Only advantage it has is a big armor buffer and high powergrid. Neither of these are significant enough to justify paying 50mil extra.
For PVE, it's usable as a mission ship cause of the rep bonus and damage bonus. High powergrid is more useful here because NPCs are stupid and tracking won't affect you nearly as much in missions. I still prefer a Domi since it's 1/3 the cost and usually does the job just as well without using ammo.

The sweet fit for a pvp Hyperion should use the fifth mid slot for a scripted Tracking Computer II to replicate that lovely Megathron bonus. Then just remember that a dual LAR set-up will break your capacitor in half, and fitting 8x neutron blaster IIs will leave you with about enough grid to fill the rest of your slots with civilian mods and nothing better.
But seriously, its still a fun ship for solo or gang PVP and the active tank means you can at least keep yourself alive while tanking instead of relying on others to remote rep your gobs of armor.

Keep in mind you're missing a low slot relative to the other gallente BS's in exchange for that tanking bonus. An extra EANM II would give about 24% less incoming damage (20% + L4 comps) vs the 30% extra LAR II amount from BS4.
It "only" has a 100 m¦ drone bay which is kinda slim for a Gallente BS and if you use a damage mod there goes more tank.
I think the above reasons are why it isn't very popular... On the plus side it's got roomy fitting and good capacitor :)

The hyperion isn't bad for PvP, but it suffers the same problems that all tier 3 battleships have: it's too expensive to justify using given that other, cheaper ships will do the job just as well if not better. Unless you specifically need to active tank in PvP, a Megathron will likely be a better choice.
My prefered role for a Hyperion in PvP is as a bait ship. It's got the tank to stay alive until the rest of the gang shows up, it can do enough damage to soften up the primary, and it's expensive enough that everyone will want to be on the killmail. I flew for a while with a guy who actually had his Hype named 'Bait Ship' and it never failed.
Hyperions are okay for PvE, but a Dominix may be a better (and less expensive) choice. -------------------- "I am hard pressed on my right; my centre is giving way; situation excellent; I am attacking." - Ferdinand Foch at the Battle of the Marne |

t3 bs's really aren't that much more expensive the insurance makes up for it I think, abaddon is around 140m and insurance is 50m and it pays 180m. As far as hype a nice fit I've come accross is 8x electron II's, 2x cap booster II's, and in the lows 2x repper II, and the rest resist mods it's damage is not spectacular but it's tank allows it to take out most gank fit bs's. U do use alot of cap charges though.
