they are nu-metal, they just abit more skilled than the rest of the nu-metal artists though(comes ot technique/speed that is)..
Dont get me started arguing on genre stuff. But what makes you think that speed makes them more skilled?
So you think you know about genres than me.
ok then what are they to you then, classical pop? deathcore?, jassfusion?
According to their website and various news outlets they are considered: Alternative metal, Nu metal, Rap metal (early) __________________________________________________

Ok shall we go into a perfect discription of every band? you do know how long the list will be? referring to nu-metal is a more simple term for normal ppl to understand..
I do admit they were abit rapmetal at the start and yes are slighty alternative.. ________________________ I'M POOR

There are too many different types of metal anyway. What have we got?
Subgenres
Avant-garde metal - Black metal - Death metal - Doom metal - Glam metal - Gothic metal - Groove metal - Power metal - Speed metal - Stoner metal - Symphonic metal - Technical metal - Thrash metal - Traditional heavy metal - Unblack metal - Viking metal
Fusion genres
Alternative metal - Christian metal - Crust punk - Folk metal - Funk metal - Grindcore - Grunge - Industrial metal - Metalcore - Neo-classical metal - Nu metal - Post-metal - Progressive metal - Rap metal - Sludge metal
My head will explode. There are stupidly too many. __________________________________________________

I know exactly what you mean, the lists are too long and for too complicated for "noobs" to understand, thats why I just try and say "nu-metal" for slipknot, ofc they fit into subgenres but heh.. lol ________________________ I'M POOR

EDIT: so your saying a guy that jsut picked up the guitar is a good as yngve malmsten? being able to play faster and have a wider range of technique allows one to be more creative and develop a more unique sound...
again I didn't say they were "better" I was reffering to skileldi n the sense that they play faster and have abit more technique in their music...
No, what im saying is that in order to be good, its not all about playing fast. In my opinion Malmsteen plays absolute shit because he seems to think that music is only good if you play it as fast as you possibly can.

We need that taxonomy. It may seem overwhelming to the uninitiated, but once you develop an ear for metal you'll realize they are different enough that you may really be into a particular style, but loathe another. And if you like a given band, knowing what style they play helps you find more new bands you may like as well.
I have to say I had never heard of "Unblack Metal", so I just googled it. Damn.

"Skill" is a very broad term that applies to different things, and "good" is a subjective one.
You may not like what Malmsteen is playing, but it does require a lot of a particular skill and technique - not many people can play that fast and accurately - and it does take a lot of practice to get there.
On the other hand, other guitar players develop their skills in playing far fewer notes, but focusing on the feeling and playing the right notes in the right places (such as Keef Richards or Mark Knopfler). Or they are skilled in coming up with kick-ass riffs and rhythms (James Hetfield, Angus Young), or perhaps just developing a unique and original guitar sound (Josh Homme).
To each their own.

The still haven't figured out how to use blast beats properly. Psychosocial was decent, nothing special but that other one they released, name escapes me, was crap. All blast beats with nothing going on. What a joke =/

I dunno, typically I like slipknot but that one didn't do much for me. It lacked hitting power, there wasn't all that much in the way of harmony or lifting vocals...just meh.
I've been on Apocalyptica kick lately so I may be biased against Slipknot though. _____________________________________________

Corey Taylor is a good vocalist. The band were decent musicians, but the costumes were just a joke IMHO. I grew up in the same town as GWAR so all newer shock metal bands were kinda pointless.

You know the funniest thing about Carcass?
They were all actually vegans / vegetarians / animal activists, and the extreme gore that was all over their first albums' lyrics and covers was meant to make some sort of subversive ironic statement about eating meat, as well as expressing the repulsion they felt towards it.
With this piece of information in mind, lyrics such as "Exhume To Consume" acquire a whole new level of meaning:
Grimly I dig up the turfs To remove the corrupted stiffs Trying to contain my excitement As I desecrate graveolent crypts... Fingers claw at coffin lids Eager festal exhumation Hugging your wry, festered remains With post-humous joy and elation... Body snatched, freshly interred Whatever takes my fancy To satisfy my gratuitous pica My culinary necromancy... Scrutinised then brutalised My forensic inquisition is fulfiled My recipe is now your epitaph Be it fried, boiled or grilled...
I devour the pediculous corpse Whetting my palate as I exhume The festering stench of rotting flesh Makes me drool as I consume...
Caskets I grate My larder's a grave I'm sickly obsessed (with the badly decomposed) Rotten remains I eat Purulent meat What a funeral feast (putrid reek)
Weeping tissue is stripped Pus dribbles from my lips Pulverising this pustular chaff Butchering up morgue's makes me laugh...
Ulcerated flesh I munch Rotting corpses are my lunch On bones I love to crunch (on the badly decomposed) Shrivelled innards I lick The corpse's head I kick Crumbling shreds I pick (eat the stiffs) [Solo: morbid melody for the deceased with salt to taste]
Rancid flesh, slaughter the dead - Caskets exhumed... Corpses disinterred, graves disturbed - To consume...
Bereaved relatives are not amused As on their dear departed I feverishly consume...
Slavering worms, decomposure burns Corrosion born, as bacteria gnaw
Desecrate... Precipitate....(from the muddy grave) Macerate... Eviscerate...
Caskets I grate My larder's a grave I'm sickly obsessed (with the badly decomposed) Rotten remains I eat Purulent meat What a funeral feast (putrid reek)
Saponified fats, nibbled by rats - freshly exhumed... Deep down six feet is where I like to eat - Human flesh to consume...
EDIT: Anyway, my favorite Carcass song: Corporal Jigsore Quandary, from my favorite Carcass album: "Necroticism - Descanting the Insalubrious".

So True. I also love the rumor that one of the band members sister's medical dictionary was one of the primary sources for their song titles.
They also had a reunion show at the Wacken Open Air Festival a few days ago

It's not just a rumor, it was true :) They've admitted on interviews they were using medical books to write both titles and lyrics, as well as photos for the collages of their first two album covers.
