I know this idea has died a death but; a possible workaround I'm looking at is an Iphone3g and a VNC app.
Anyone else tried this yet?

Ok it doesn't work for me. That, as I have discovered, is because I'm with BE and have a dynamic IP. If you have a fixed IP there is no reason I can see why it shouldn't work. The VNC app is in the Business section of the App store, called 'Mocha VNC' it's around ú3.50

I would like to be able to change my skills just from the site. I don't have 24/7 access to the computer in which the client is downloaded.

I got it to work on mac (Mocha), but it's slow as well...something underground. Not sure is just the way it is, or is there something screwing up somewhere.

for most people VNC is going to be slow due to the asynchronous nature of broadband. Most people have great download rates, but there upload rate sucks, so when the client is pushing out the data it is caped by that.
As a side note.. VNC is not encrypted, so if you are on a public WiFi hot spot someone can sniff your traffic and get your username and password, to counter this you will need to set up a VPM connection and route through that. You do not need to worry as much if you use it on 3g, or EDGE.

Yes, but i was using it wlan. Of course I'm not 100% sure if it goes trough local network, or always via internet... gotta check that.

whenver you use a wireless connection there's always a chance someone will sniff a packet, but due to the massive ammount of trafic when vnc'ing i wouldn't be worried about it. -------- LOL I have no sig! |

but it is so easy to set up a VPN server, and route through that..

Also iPhone supports VPN, but not sure if it's usable to the apps.

yes any network connection can/will use the VPN connection. and you can force all traffic through it by selecting the "Send All Traffic" option.. this is the ONLY way to fly if using a public WiFi access point(well for me any way.. I'm a tad paranoid)..

Yep im running a vnc server on my pc and using a vnc client on the iphone to view my pc. Works flawlessly, although I do disable 32-bit colour to speed things up a bit. Only everyonce in a while to I have to manually refresh, it picks up changes pretty well without refreshing the whole screen. Not tried undocking yet lol tho.

Actually that would make it easier. Doing security work for money (run my own corporate contract shop), I can tell you that it is immensely easier to decrypt a transmission when the sample size is huge, and if the attacker is truly interested in getting the data, he can inject some bad packets in to cause a response that is generally known to try to aid in the decryption.
If the user is interested in doing iPhone + some computer then try these out for thought:
for XP -> http://wireless.gumph.org/content/6/4/012-howto-xp-pptp-vpn-server.html for OX X -> http://www.helsinki.fi/atk/english/hy-ppp/hy-vpn/hy-vpn-mac.html for Linux -> http://openvpn.net/
Then using L2TP as your base protocol; avoid PPTP as it is inherently weak in security arenas.

That looks interesting but the only mention of a Logmein product for mobile phones (Logmein remote+mobile) seems to cost a LOT!
Where did you find a free version for Windows Mobile? |

It should be free... go to www.logmein.com on your phone and log in, it'll ask you to download something and then you should be good to go.
You kind of scroll across your desktop but its pretty good.
I also made an eve remote client - basically copied my eve folder then changed all the gfx to minimum - lowest res, turned off everything I could. As the way it works is running a different gfx driver or something to display the screen. You'll also want it windowed, as opening it fullscreen never seems to work for me.
logmein has lots of features but you don't need to pay anything for it if you just want remote control/access.
