Last night I got into a tussle with a scorp outside of a station. I am -10 sec, he is 1.9 I believe. He aggroed me first, I tanked him for a little as I was jammed and wanted to see what he could do. When I got a lock I unloaded on him but, the sentries attacked me. I got away but it was strange I thought.
I always thought the guns only fired if I attacked first because of my sec status. Thought it was ok to attacked back once agrressed with no sentry interference. Has this the way it has always been? When don't the guns fire?

I would agree under most circumstances, but I had not attacked anyone until this altercation. Was actually outside of the station when said scorp warped in and locked/jammed me. No sentries attacked me until I fired back on him.

That sounds like a bug. If you were not the initial aggressor and didn't have a GCC timer, you shouldn't have gotten sentry shot.
Petition it, see what the answer is.

You didn't shoot the station by any chance? or scramble a wreck you were salvaging?
Not that its ever happened to me

I was equipped with a couple smartbombs, maybe I somehow hit the station. Thats the only thing I can think of. I was too close at one point for them to work, and set them off as soon as I was able to.

If your in range of the station they shouldn't fire. You may however have smartbombed a corpse? This would get you aggro probably and most peeps have them turned off the overview so wouldn't even know.

^not sure if it's what Skunk is talkin about, but I usually scoop corpses to hold in a Rifter, then use it for target practice cause I like the green explosion. =P
