Graphics aren't bad, but I wonder what the gameplay is going to be like.

I'm wondering about it myself. Haven't heard anything about the new version and was not too impressed with the previous one they were working on.

1. No unconsensual PvP 2. Only loss is time 3. Static economy
I'm not worried. Anyone who leaves EVE for it is probably better off over there anyway. ---------------- Play EVE: Downtime Madness v0.83 (Updated 7/3) |

Heheheheh. Your funny, you. You! Your funny.
I think EvE's only major competition is JGE, and I think JGE is going to be hard-pressed with it's own fanboi's. They won't be the same game, and I honestly think EvE is going to keep growing for another 5 years, easy.
Not a lot of sci-fi games that have the intensity of EvE.

Looks nice enough, but ...
... unlikely to have real pvp and full economy - so not competing at all.

I know of no announced MMOG that stands to provide any kind of competition to Eve. Jumpgate Evolution is probably the only thing that looks to even attempt to compete and I'm personally not all that impressed. CCP made a very smart decision when they went with 3rd person views and non-cross hair controls. Arcadey controls would have ruined Eve in my opinion.

…makes me wonder, though: how on earth would you make a non-realtime MMO? I guess the good old "log on once a day and choose whom to attack" BBS- and web games could qualify, but still.
Also, 300 players max? Blech.

I second this. Eve isn't just a Sci-Fi game, it's a harsh, unforgiving sci-fi game. Just because another MMO is set in space doesn't really mean it's direct competition for Eve.

Kinda funny that we point out that there is no real competition to EVE, because EVE is hardcore. At the same time, the devs try to destroy their own advantage, with every patch making EVE closer to mainstream.

300 people within visible range of each other? When I played I rarely saw more than 50 in one attack, though that was usually pretty lag free. ---------------- Play EVE: Downtime Madness v0.83 (Updated 7/3) |

At the beginning, base assaults were massive, China Planetside even more so, then BFR's came out and the game imploded in on itself.

Your point #1 is more of a reason for people to like the game than not like it. It's why some people right now as we speak are playing WOW instead of EVE - the majority of the people are sissies but that doesn't mean they don't have money to spend on online gaming and games companies cater to them because of that (except CCP, gg tbh we likes it here).
Your point #3 is right on the money :p You gots to be able to get you market thang down or else its basically naff.

I actually resub'd a few months ago for a month, populations are decimated (although this was pre-server merge), battles usually end quickly and the game has lost a lot of its luster. Oh well :\

Well, before they scaled back, they allowed 500 per continent, and even after that, the three-way poplocks (3x133) were quite common.
That said, the only time I think I actually saw 500 in the same spot was during the bending. We had a great party on Oshur…
