Currently I only use ReloadEvery and NoScript. Anybody use others that are practically required? __________________________

since you've got noscript, you might want to get flashblock as well. they work well together. (sometimes you want to accept scripts, but not all flash-movies on a site)

"Adblock Plus" is a MUST. Also "Nuke anything enhanced" for those really annoying things that Adblock misses. Flagfox is cute too, _ Mal-`Appears we got here just in a nick of time. What does that make us?¦ Zoe-¦Big damn heroes sir.¦ Mal-¦Aint we just.¦ |

Edited by: Bish Ounen on 31/07/2008 20:14:55 These four are ones that I always always install as soon as I have Firefox up and running on a new system. I list them here in order of Importance
1) No Script - Single most important add-on that ANYONE should have on Firefox. While it's a bit fiddly to get going at first, once you have it setup it is a HUGE advantage. It also blocks many java-based ads.
2) Adblock Plus - Better than plain Adblock, as you can subscribe to pre-existing lists, and any extra stuff you block can be added to the list. Good stuff.
3) FasterFox - Boosts your overall surfing and download speed, great for giving you that extra boost when pulling in large sites.
4) Forecast Fox - I know, it sounds silly, but having that forecast bar up there is something that weather junkies like myself just love, and I don't have to deal with crappy weatherbug. It just makes the browsing experience more enjoyable, and if you move it to the top bar, it fills up a normally empty space in the browser.
The following are other addons that I highly recommend, but aren't what I would consider "critical".
1) IE Tab - Basically opens an instance of IE in a tab. Good for pages that are still stuck in the past and unable to work with Firefox. Also nice for web developers to check on how their site looks in IE without having to have multiple browsers open in diferent windows.
2) Video DownloadHelper - Helps you pull in embedded media files, great if you see a cool media file and want to grab it.
3) UnPlug - Nice for snagging embedded Flash files and other embedded media. Works slightly differently than Video Download Helper, so if you like to snag embeds, it's a good idea to have both installed.
4) Customize Google - Nice if you are a big Google user, as it adds in search results from other search engines, disables googleads and sponsored links, and generally makes using Google a better experience.
5) FireFTP - Nifty little FTP program that replaces Firefox's (admittedly) crappy default FTP handling. Very nice if you work with FTP at all.
6) Greasemonkey - Great tool for budding web developers and hackers. Basically a Graphical page source and construction viewer. Also let's you tweak and alter any page you have admin access to, and reveals website weaknesses.
7) Foxmarks - Allows you to Sync your bookmarks on a password protected central server. that way if you change PC's often, it's easy to get your bookmarks all back. Also nice if you have multiple PC's you can have the same bookmarks on every PC.
8) 4Chan extension (sorry, no link) Available at 4chan. For browsing that site.
Those are my favorites. I can highly recommend them all.

Interesting. I was not aware of the memory leaks with IE Tab, although I can't say I've ever had issues with it.
I also note that ALL of your links deal directly with Firefox 2 problems, and one of the pages even says that you can fix it by upgrading to Firefox 3, which is the only version you can download now. So I don't know how relevant your links are anymore.
I would also say that your original statement is a tad overbroad. Perhaps it would be wiser to say SOME poorly made extensions can cause issues and slowness with Firefox 2 and possibly Firefox 3, much like some poorly made software can cause issues and slowness with your PC.
Either way, thanks for the info.

If you use a Google account, GMarks solves very nicely the problem of making your bookmarks accessible from anywhere. You'll then be centralizing your bookmarks on your Google account (which can be organized using tags, more flexible than in folders), and available not only natively to whatever Firefoxes you have on other computers, but also through google.com/bookmarks/ from any other browser you have access to (I also added a Google bookmarks gadget on my iGoogle).
If you do any sort of web development, you should be repeatedly kicking yourself in the butt for all the time you've wasted if you are not using Firebug already.
I personally don't use any ad-blocking extensions. Advertising is the source of revenue for a lot of the sites I visit and enjoy daily on a free basis - while they are certainly not being operated for free - and it's not like seeing them is ruining my browsing experience. But to each their own and their own conscience.

Most useful plugin i've ever used. Turns text links into actual clickable links - no more having to copy an paste an unclickable link! __________________

FoxClocks is a handy addon that puts additional clocks at the bottom of the firefox window. Useful if you need to have a discreet reminder of what time it is in several places.
