Hello everyone,
one of my chars is basically a miner who has some sp already spend in the production skills aswell. Since I mine in empire with this char while running missions/pvp with an other one, he basically has access to the main empire ores. Now I wonder with the more and more dropping mineral prices (thanks all you macro miners) if it would not be a better idea to start producing things out of the gathered minerals and sell those.
What I am not so sure about is the route to go now. Is it a viable option to just buy a BPO from the market and start producing right away? What would be a good idea to produce in the first place? I thought perhaps about missles and sell the in or near mission areas? Or is this market way to saturated and it would not be worth the effort?
I of course dont want you to tell me you buisness secrets like best profit would be selling item A in region B, but it just want some starter tips to avoid the biggest mistakes :)

You have two options here:
1) You can do as you say and keep everything in house from refining to production. To which you will be praying that you can find a system that will have a sell price that will cover your production costs and the raw value of the ores/menials used.
or
2) Sell your minerals/ore to the highest bidder, and then hunt for the lowest bidder knocking off potential production costs w/ a mineral/ore procurement process. Of course there is risk here. You can get stuck and have to buy high in cases of logistics is concerned.... however, with more risk there are bigger profits.... as in life...
Personally, i see the market using option 2 time and time again.... yes it is more work however, your wallet will be fatter!

If All miners quit from mining bussiness, we cant find a single ammo to fire. Miners are oil companies of the eve universe. Cemko, The Looter of the endless dusts, creator of the best ships and guns, lonely explorer of the suns. Dont try, even think that open fire to him, you bad guys. |

i am not saying anything against miners in general, BUT against all those macro users which flood the market with sell orders for 500 million trit for 2,4 isk per unit which totally destroys the market

You could always buy all of the Tritanium at 2.4 and then resell for a profit. It's called market manipulation.

Hello Just;
You can do the things you said about getting the BPO and building, then selling. Just a couple of things you have to monitor; if you want to continue to make isk doing that.
- First you will need to do research in the market to see what is selling in the area you plan on working/mining/building/selling in.
- Then check on getting the BPO for the items you have found that sell well in step 1. You can also start with using BPC's, since some of the BPO's can run you a fair amount of iskies
- If you by a BPO make sure to take into account the amount of time you will need to do research on that BPO. Since the more research the less minerals you will use, hence making your profit larger.
For most BPO research you are looking at: ME = 20+ for ships, 50-100 or modules, 100 for ammo and 50+ for most weapons.
- After that is is basically monitoring market prices of the minerals to see if you will make more selling the built items or just the minerals? At that point it is up to you of course.
- After all those things you need to factor in the research costs/investment of the BPO, time it takes you to mine the required minerals to keep up with demand and all of your competators.
Hope that helps some and that you can find a niche to get you started? King of the puffy tail

I see this again and again and its just plain wrong
Miners dont fuel the mineral market. Reprocessing is the single biggest source of minerals.

if your going to produce anything get production efficiency to 5 and use a researched/bpo or bpc. Pay attention to where you sell and how much it is going to cost you as well as the costs of production - sell for a profit not what the lowest sell order is. If you cant sell your items for a profit either move them or try and change the market.
