I know EFT says that Extenders provide more defence. But Rechargers seem like they would benifit more in a Drake. Does anyone know which is really better.

Extenders increase shield amount, while shield recharge time remains the same. This means you will get more shield/second by fitting extenders.
Wether a recharger or an extender gives you a better passive tank, compare it in eft. On a drake a recharger will probably only start being better after having fit 3 extenders. But you might run into grid problems and only be able to fit 2.

Only fit reachargers if you have no grid for extra extenders, nor enough capacitor for extra hardeners.
As long as an additional extender increases your max shield amount by at least 15%, it's better than a SR-II, REGARDLESS of ship. Ironically, the only ships where a shield recharger would be better than extenders soon enough in the module fil order to matter are Rattlesnake and CNR.

Edited by: Wil Smithx on 02/08/2008 17:36:12 extenders are always better than rechargers (rechargers are useful if you dont have grid though). Its best to have 4 extenders on a drake since extenders don't use cap like your 4 hardeners.
Not only do they increase the amount of regen you get, by having a larger hp your area of peak regen is larger meaning you are a lot less vulnerable to alpha strike.
Lows should all be shield power relays, power diagnostics are if you cant fit the ship properly. Its always better to have spr.
Shield purgers rigs too ofc.
And if this is a pvp setup disregard everything I have said because you want buffer buffer buffer.
Edit: Highlighted a key area beacuse its so damned important.

You need 4 or 5 extenders before its better to fit shield rehcargers over extenders. Gone are the days where passive tanks used shield rechargers. They need boosting, or shield extenders need nerfing.
Saying that flying a 5 slot shield recharger, 7 slot SPR Domi setup with Purgers is fun for lvl 3 missions. Not effetive but fun. ____ Telltale sign of their presence is non-linear teleportation (www.eve-online.com/races/theodicy/Theodicy_All.pdf)
