I want to make a character devoted entirely to mining. How will I go about choosing attributes and skills to each that goal?
What skills and in what order do I train them? What attributes do I favor?
Any additional advice? |

Check the mining links.

What I would mainly like to know is what attributes is most important to a miner. Does anyone have an answer for that. That doesn't involve reading a 64 page PDF. So I can atleast create my character?

all attributes are needed equally, cause if you pound on the int and mem for the industry skills then you won't have the wis and perc for training spaceship command to get into a hulk/industrial

Here is the assumption, assume modified +13 stats (+4 Implants, +4 Advanced Learning, +5 Learning).
You want 20+ perception/will. You want 22+ int/mem. You want 16+ charisma.

lol.. All attributes are equal? I think not.
Perception & Memory. Perception should be fairly obvious memory controls your industry & drone skills.. This is assuming you'll want top notch drone skills.(I would on my miner)
Charisma as low as possible, obviously.(Even if you plan on training mining foreman)

Intelligence and memory are the attributes that influence Industry skills. Perception will aid in training the required spaceship command skills to pilot an exhumer, but focus on getting intelligence and memory as high as possible. Do not worry about charisma for now.

Caldari have the best cruiser to mine in.... but their industrial comes up lacking.

Well, the learning curve at the beginning is quite steep. On the flip side, the complexity of the game is what keeps you interested for the long run. The more you read now, the less you will kick yourself later on for making uninformed decisions.
One thing I've learned with EVE is that nobody's 'easy answer' is a substitute for learning about something yourself and making your own choices. That said, there are some good suggestions here for attributes, but as you can probably deduce, it also involves a certain amount of personal opinion.
My suggestion for your first character - go for a more well-balanced approach to attributes than trying to max out any attribute in particular. This will leave you with the most flexibility. My opinion is that charisma is the least important attribute, so a Caldari Achura or Deteis, a Minmatar Seibestor, or a Gallente Intake are your best bets for a high int-mem character that won't suffer from lack of perc or will, depending on your choice of bloodlines and academy training. Note that your career won't affect attributes, just starting skills, and how many points you have in them.
Of course, if you search for 'character creation' in the forums and read up on it, you will be able to make your own judgement call.

Mining Drone II x5 Berserker I x3
-- And the berserkers are some nice protection
OR
[Osprey, Osprey Miner] 713m3 per cycle (1005m3) Expanded Cargohold II Expanded Cargohold II Expanded Cargohold II
[empty med slot] [empty med slot] [empty med slot] [empty med slot]
Miner II Miner II Miner II TE-2100 Standard Missile Bay, Sabretooth Light Missile
[empty rig slot] [empty rig slot] [empty rig slot]
Mining Drone I x4
-- with only a single missle launcher for protection AND only 4 drones max
NOTE: all of these figures are using the ALL LVL5 setting in EFT
Also note that the vexor is slightly more durable than the osprey, but slightly less agile. Both have the same max speeds (160m/s with these load outs)

I question your choice of career path; if you don't have the patience to take the time to read a 64 page PDF or at least the forum Sticky. Mining & a career mining char is for patient players. Characteristics also include players that can set long term goals, study, and mental skills to compute the metrics for yield and basically self-educate themselves based on reading & research. If you do these things, mining can be very rewarding. I wish you luck!
