Hi guys just looking for someone who knows to tell me if this can be done? And how...
I seem to recall that you can research BPO's from safety of an NPC station and your own hangar as long as POS is in same system?
Could someone tell me if this is true and the ins and outs ?

yes you can, needs a skill to be done the skill affects range you can launch from bpo/bpc and materials need to be where the lab is.

Actually, you don't need the Networking skill to start research on a bpo in an npc station. Just make sure your character is at the pos when you start it and it will run (bpo is in station). If your character is at the station with the bpo, then you do need the networking skill.

I have always tried to figure out how to rent out mobile lab slots to players outside of corp. With out have in the roles form the corp how are you able to rent them out to other people if the lab slots are made public? Thats how I define secure research, have you had any luck with that?

One way is through an alliance. There are some alliances where you create a research alt, create a corp for that alt, get an office for the corp in one of the systems where they have POS, then you put your BPO in your own corporate hangar and use the alliance POS for a small fee. This only works for ME/PE though, not copying/invention, as those don't currently work well in that kind of set up.

You can do research that doesn't require or produce materials (most ME/PE) from an OFFICE in the same system as the POS, that belongs to the corp owning the POS or another corp in the same alliance. You can't do it from your personal hangar with a POS ever.
The other place you can do it is from the POS itself if in the same corp as the POS owner, and any required materials other than the BPO/BPC(invention) are required to be in the POS itself (and any BPCs produced come out in the POS lab)
