I've been watching the fall in the market for this item over the last few months, and, at least in Lonetrek, it seems to have reached a bottom and starting to rise again with sell orders at around 260 in high sec and climbing towards 300+, while buy orders are going up from around 213 to 260. Anyone seeing the same?

I don't claim to know where the bottom is in the isotope market but I do know they will rebound to much more than they're currently selling for in Jita. That said, I have to admit it dropped a lot faster than I expected as of late. For a while I was short selling and buying back and not just keeping up but actually making a profit. Lately though it's outpaced even me so at this point I'm pretty much locked in and going to have to ride it out. Thankfully I have a diverse revenue stream and my reacting alone covers the interest I owe my investors so tying up capital in this shouldn't be too much of a problem, just really annoying.

Ah? The same way you would on any real world stock? You sell it now, wait until it goes down and then buy it back cheaper. You end up with the same stuff you started with plus the difference in value.
I have 10M units of Nitrogen and I know the markets going to collapse. I sell it now at 300, wait, buy it back at 200. There's 1B in profit.

It's a short sell, only if you sell something that you don't own. Say you borrow 10M units of nitrogen from me and sell them. The next level, which we can't do here, is "naked" short selling, where you sell something you haven't bothered to get or borrow yet.

To a point I agree with Kwint. If you start with asset A that is valued at B and you sell asset A for C then turn around and buy asset A again for D which is less than C then in essence you have short selled and made a profit of D - C.
The end state is you have the same amount of assets plus the additional value of isk which equals C.
Very confusing, but also very simple. Maybe it's the beer, but I like it.

Ya technically speaking Tasko is correct, by definition a short sale is selling something you don't have. However, in the context of Eve, if you sell an asset that you will or need to buy back in the future...then i guess you could say you sold short. However, if Eve could incorporate true short sales, that would be so....for lack of a better term....sick.

All isotopes prices are starting to rise again, it's a combination of macro's getting suicided like crazy (everyone complains about them but hey, they keep the markets low... I remember when isotopes were 600/unit in Jita) ... and instability in 0.0 Regions. Especially up north where there's a lot of fighting going on now (coincidently the Nitrogen area), many supply lines are unsafe to fly freighterloads back to empire.
Also, true short-selling in eve will create a bubble. It's not a good idea
