This is my main, she started off life as a miner, eventually started expanding her repertoire to running missions (primarily to get the refining discounts etc), manufacturing, marketing a little for our tiny Corp. Certainly nothing exciting.

I've had a few brushes with PvP, again nothing conclusive- mostly defending myself from ore thieves on occasion, or
running away..er getting out of Dodge...but exciting nonetheless.
I need advice on whether to keep training up combat/ship skills with my main character and use her to be a jack-of-all trades-PvPer/Pirate with her or should I use a combat-type alt as my pirate?

Would a PvP/Pirate oriented Corp enlist an industrialist-turned-fighter? Thanks in advance!

Merc corp(s) of the Day usually take anyone. Most corps will take you, some have min skill points but those are usually for the older players, larger alliances will take you too, hell some will take anyone.

Consider that you can only train one character per paid account. So, if you want to keep training your industry char, you will need a new, paid account for a pirate char.

No idea what your current skill set looks like, but if you've been playing longer than a few months, you probably don't want to trash your main and start over as a pirate. Just skill up from where you are, unless you want to do the dual account thing.

Focus on industrial and mining since you started that way.

Make enough isk to buy and pay for a second account with GTC and buy a PvP char with that.

A pure combat char will still need isk coming from somewhere to replace all the ships lost in pvp.

I started off as a miner/industry type. Then realised pvp was more fun. While i sometimes lament my low perception i really wouldnt have wanted to start a new char from scratch. My advice just train for some combat ships if you want to. Enjoy the game and have some fun.

Lies. I have two pure combat characters/accounts. Originally by: Sorrin Decker A pure combat char will still need isk coming from somewhere to replace all the ships lost in pvp.

Ok, this account can fly a retriever, but meh... it never made me any isk, so once I got a new PC that got more than 10fps... it was pvp-on

Many PVPers find it helpful to have multiple accounts and characters, which they use to scout with (and forum troll as well). I say start a second account, and buy a PVP char to PVP with and train Sidael into a scouting alt. Train up covert ops ships and scan probes and go to town. Btw, I'm selling an Amarr HAC pilot. :D

Thanks for the replies- much appreciated. I'll keep diversifying Sid's fighting and ship handling skills and see where that leads. Meanwhile, I've managed to convince a couple corpmates that we should go lose a bunch of pixels learning to privateer. Yay! er I mean 'Yarr'

When I started, I specced this toon out for mining and industry. Was in industrial corps for a long while and eventually switched over to PvE/missions. PvP is all I do now - can't stand carebearing, and I get by pretty well.

My best advice is to learning PvP is to hop into a frigate, get a good setup (I usually like the ones on the eve-pirate.com forums) and start flipping jet-cans. Learn how to pick your fights and just as important as starting a fight - learn how to get out of a fight once it's been started (i.e. a blob warps in, trap of some kind, etc.). Don't be afraid of getting sploder'd, just make sure you use cheap ships and aim to do more isk damage than number of kills. Once you figure all of this out, go play in lowsec/nosec and start nukin people.

Good luck with whatever you choose.
