Skill system need to rework to make it more natural and dynamic. Most relevant feature of memory is 'forgetting'. Either natural or artificial intellect have this feature. So it will be logical to forget skills, when they aren't used actively.
I suggest to set 'skills untraining' (forgetting). Simultaneously, for balance, to increase training speed.
What it give us. 1) 'Exchange' in some time useless skills for useful. 2) Fast reach wanted skill, to test different careers.

Yay! Then I can respec Shadow instead of Holy for that big raid on Black Temple this weekend!
How often have you rolled out of bed, and forgotten how to tie your shoes, or drive your car, or operate the equipment at work?
Human beings don't have a limited amount of "storage capacity", with the option to replace unused memories with more relevant ones.
Just accept the fact that CCP may nerf something once in a while, and now you feel your skills aren't useful anymore. But that doesn't mean you get to trade them out for skills that are useful NOW. --- Don't take my ranting personally. I may just be arguing the topic, unless you're saying something stupid, and then I mean every word. "Players don't want Variety. They want THE BEST" |

There is no such thing as a useless skill. Merely a player who hasn't found a use for them yet. ___ My views may not represent those of my corporation or alliance, which is why I never get invited to those diplomatic parties... |

Truth. Besides, the skills that are "useless" now, might become very useful in the next big nerf patch (nerfing is good in my eyes) .

Oh, the "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" skill.
If only that was a 'virus' you could inject people with while 'walking in stations' :-0 -- Two prostitutes standing on a street corner. One says to the other, "Have you ever been picked up by the fuzz?" The other replies, "No, but I've been swung around by the ****!" |

Seems like a very efficient method of purging unwanted skills :)
