My corp is a small-time one formed mostly out of people that know each other in the real world, so we don't havr the best equipment or skilled pilots. We do the ocassional mining op but that's about it. However, we now have a reasonable stack of minerals and are looking for turn it into a nice profit (aside from selling the minerals direct). I looked a little into manufacturing but in about 9 cases out of 10 the cost of minerals exceeds the value of the product. In the remaining 1 case the cost of production/manufacturing puts the cost of a unit over the sell price again. So in short, is there a way for small time corps to make some ISK from manufacturing?

Have someone in the corp train production efficiency V, and a few other production skills

Get yer tranin' clogs on and INVENT.... its a bit of a job getting started but it will keep everyone busy and there's a great sense of achievment when your firt batch of tech II stuff is taken out of the oven, I promise it will bring a tear to your eye. |

In short, yes, you can make ISK solo if so inclined, you just need to pick and choose what you make and where you sell it, also get into invention, and if you have enough peeps look into buying more expensive BPOs as a corp kinda thing that people can get payback from.

My advice to new industrialists is to make ammo and sell them at various mission hubs. It allows you to get into it without having to purchase expensive blueprints.

You should be able to turn a profit, albeit a small one, if you have production efficiency V trained. Another step to take would be to purchase the implant that reduces production waste. It's a bit expensive, but is easy to make a ROI. Do also keep in mind the cost of taxes when selling and the cost of installing the manufacturing job when calculating your profit.

Cheers for the responses guys and gals. I think at the moment I'll look into making ammo (especially projectile charges). I'll look into some other stuff like research and inventing as well, which I'll be honest I really don't understand at the moment.

You sir are sadly mistaken, it does exist.
It's named: hardwiring - zainou 'beancounter' h60
Thats the 4% waste reduction implant

H60 - A neural Interface upgrade that boosts the pilots manufacturing skills. 4% reduction in manufacturing time.
it would of been the G60 but that never made it into the game

It does exist -> Linky
Sells for a not so nice price of around 100mil. :/ Anyway, thanks for the responses, think I've found some ammo to churn out for iskies. I looked into inventing a bit, let me see if I have this right, it's making T2 BP's from T1 BP's, right?

Generally you can make more buying and selling than you can building, but if you want to build, sell in a place with little supply as people will pay more for a product than in a busier hub, you just have to be more patient. Also for anything that requires more than a handful of material you need the production efficiency skill trained to lvl 5 before you start.
For some items they are quite proiftable even purchasing BPCs, for others they're either being looted, or being made by people who have already got the BPO. If you can resell the minerals for more than an item costs to make, you might consider getting high refining skills and doing just that.

You've got the wrong item description... It says: "A neural Interface upgrade that boosts the pilots manufacturing skills. 4% reduction in refinery waste."
Go link it in game and look for yourself.

Unless I'm mistaken (which happens from time to time), "refinery waste" ≠ "production waste". The former refers to minerals lost while refining raw ore(*), while the latter refers to excess minerals consumed during manufacturing.
The item description is ambiguous though. It really shouldn't say "pilots manufacturing skills", but should (IMHO) say: "A neural interface that boosts the pilot's refinery efficiency skills. 4% reduction in refinery waste."
Maybe I'll bug-report this later tonight.
The G60 is indeed the manufacturing improvement implant you need. Pity it never made it into the game. "A neural Interface upgrade that boosts the pilots manufacturing skills. 4% reduction to the material requirements needed for production."
