Hello everyone,
I know my stuff normally is more Sci & Ind. than MD, but I do post here, and I think this is germane to the MD crowd so here it is.
My name is Absimi, and I'm a manufacturer. ("Hi Absimi" is the traditional response.)
Recently I've been experimenting with a new business model. I like building, I like market research, I like logistics, but I don't like monitoring sell orders. So I've been trying selling direct to traders at cost plus a 5% markup for my own profits.
So far I've been working with two traders, both of whom have expressed satisfaction with my service and the profit margins they've been making on my goods. Since I'm equally pleased with the quick turnover I'd like to broaden this experiment by looking for new clients and moving away from marketing my goods to selling direct to retailers for me.
I think this is good for me since even if I could make more than a 5% markup on my goods selling them on market this way I get faster turnover and keep my ISK in motion, rather than stagnant on the markets. For my partners it seems to help them since they have a secure source for buying goods that have decent markups and they make ISK that way as well. Since, so far, everyone wins I am a happy camper.
So I'm looking for more traders to sell product to. If you are interested in helping me make us all ISK let me know, either here or via an EVE-mail. I'll be happy to shoot any prospective partner a product list of the goods I am willing to build (all T1 modules or rigs) and a cost estimate. If you are then interested in buying any goods from me, let me know what, and where you'd like it delivered, and I'll happily send you an invoice for the actual costs incurred in the build (plus my 5% commission).
Additionally, if anyone can suggest improvements to my business model I'd be happy to listen. But I should warn you that anything that involves ". . . and pay more attention to the market so you can maintain higher profit margins" is very likely to get shot down by me. My priorities are to have a high sales volume, and not put a lot of real-life time into it.
Anywhoo, have a good day MD. I don't think I can come close to offering the amusement value that the SCAM IPO thread is offering, but I hope folks will at least enjoy reading about my crazy idea and mocking me roundly for such idiocy. (or congratulating me on being canny in business, take your choice)

Eve-mails sent.
Hopefully this will be the start of an excellent relationship for us all. May we all make profits and keep our ISK in motion.

Edited by: Absimi Liard on 06/08/2008 05:11:37 I agree with you entirely.
That's why I'm trying to perfect this. I'd far prefer to sell to professional traders. Let them take the higher profit, and in return also assume the market risk, the attention day-trading requires, the annoyance of multi-region distribution systems, etc.
I expect that if I get enough volume I'll be more than happy with the results. Eveyone in Sci & Ind seems to take moral offense at the concept of not selling at market price, for the best profit possible.
But I'm convinced volume sales are far more useful. And that means wholesaling, and recognizing that as a builder I'm a wholesaler not a retailer.
Hopefully I'm correct.

Good morn sers Tau, Ishanty, and Knight, I just got an eve-mail out to you all introducing myself and a second one with my product list and cost estimates.
I'm afraid I'm not a ship-builder. I do possess a Catalyst BPO, but I generally find it's not worth my time to build. I can be a little picky about what I'm willing to build. In order for me to consider offering a product I require it to meet several criteria including market sales volume, a profit margin of over 20%, a net profit per run of 150 of over 1 million ISK, and that it have a low production time, and a BPO I can afford to buy. T1 modules and rigs both suit my criteria, ships almost never do.
So, given the high costs of ship BPOs, the slow speed of building them, the low profit margins, and the low net profit on the BPOs I can afford, pluss the added low sales volume a ship type normally has I don't work in ships nor plan on adding them to my product list.
Though I might be willing to do a special order it would involve some negotiations.
Sorry.

Sorry it's been a crazy week. (IRL my company moved offices last weekend, and as a sysadmin sort it's made me quite busy.) So allow me to apologize for not responding until now.
I'll get an introductory letter and my product list out to everyone here who asked for one tonight.
